Lately I’ve been receiving requests to hand out some recommendations from quite a few people, which is why I decided to make yet another one of my recommendation lists. But this time let’s do it a little differently. So while I was only naming recent ongoing manga series the last few times, I’ll now add in some more categories, such as one-shots, doujinshi and also 18+ works, but I’ll still focus on more recent works again.
I hope I can help some of you to find something good to read. And now, on to the list, but be prepared, this one will most likely be a little longer than usual.
Manga:
Titel: Comprehensive Tovarisch
Artist: Arata Iri
Genre: Comedy, Slice of Life, School Life
Description: When it comes to school, Kanna is a real hard worker, doing everything in her power to remain at the top of her class. However she already gets outrun on her very first test in high school by one of her classmates, named Yuu. And if things hadn’t been bad enough for her already, Yuu doesn’t even care about the test and throws it away right after getting it back. Kanna can’t understand how someone can throw away their “proof of hard work” so easily and ends up scolding Yuu in front of their whole class. Unexpectedly, the latter doesn’t end up hating Kanna for it, in fact it’s quite the opposite…
Scanlation Group: Yuri Project, Halfass Scans
Yuri Project is working on this one right now, but Halfass Scans already released 5 chapters I think. Still I would actually recommend you to wait for the Yuri Project version, since just like the name of the Scanlation Group suggests, it’s not all that well done. But if you are as impatient as I am, go on and read it and enjoy Kanna’s hilarious encounters with classmate Yuu, that always end with her being either confused, enraged or strangely turned on. Sometimes even all three of them together, it’s really a lot of fun!
Titel: Dear my TeacherArtist: Ajiichi
Genre: Romance, Age Gap, teacher student relationship
Description: Since there’s only one translated chapter of this manga released yet, I think I cannot give you a fitting description right now, so let’s just say it’s a story about the strange relationship of a school nurse and her student.
Scanlation Group: Binbou Scanlation
As mentioned above, there’s only one chapter out, but this already captured my attention, so I can’t wait to see how things will continue. Also I think there are already 3 volumes of this manga released in Japan, so this will finally be a little longer manga as well. But do correct me if I got that wrong.
Titel: Flag Time
Artist: Sato
Genre: Slice of Life, School Life, Time Manipulation
Description: Moritani is a very shy and unsocial high school girl, who usually tries to not stand out at all. And to do so, she uses quite the convenient power and that is stopping time. She can only do so for 3 minutes per day, but she usually uses it to either safe herself out of troublesome situations or to simply observer her classmates. But as soon as she tries to “observe” Murakami(‘s panties), she finds out that the latter is immune to her power…
Scanlation Group: Yuri Project
I wasn’t really expecting much from this one when I started reading the first chapter, but my attitude quickly changed and when I was done with the first one, I already fell in love with this unique story.
One-Shots:
Titel: Girls’ PlanetariumArtist: Amagakure Gido
Genre: Romance, Drama, School Life
Description: Simply speaking this is a story of how two girls meet and eventually develop some feelings for each other, but then again there’s a lot more to it and it has a quite interesting setting as well.
Scanlation Group: Yuri Project
Usually when I read one-shots, they are often too short for me to really get into the story and they often feel completely rushed as well. Girls’ Planetarium is a little longer than the usual one-shots and it’s also one of the few one-shots that I want a second or even a third part to be released of it too. Not like this is gonna happen, but it still captured me to an extent that I want more of it.
Titel: This is a great Hug Pillow
Artist: Minase Ruruu
Genre: Comedy, Ecchi, Fast-paced Romance
Description: This is the story of how the “Pervert and Nice Body Couple” was born and which cute and funny instances lead to this.
Scanlation Group: Yuri-ism
This is probably one of my favorite one-shots in a long while. It’s a funny, entertaining and I absolutely loved the gorgeousness of that epic make-out scene.
I demand more stuff by Minase Ruruu!
Doujinshi:
Titel: I became a HousewifeArtist: Tama II
Pairing: Madoka x Homura
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Slice of Life
Description: Since Homura totally spoils Madoka and does all the housework on her own, Madoka ends up with absolutely nothing to do, so she has to come up with a sneaky yet cute plan to trick Homura.
Scanlation Group: Yuri-ism
With the upcoming Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica movie, you should definitely prepare your body by reading loads of Madoka doujinshi, preferably yuri ones. I think you can’t really go wrong with this one. It’s exactly how I imagine the relationship of Madoka and Homura to look like and it’s of course pretty cute as well~
Titel: A Piece of My Wish
Artist: Kohakura
Pairing: Nanoha x Fate (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha)
Genre: Romance, Slice of Life, Drama
Description: Nanoha thinks back on the past happenings and remembers how much she wishes for the happiness of her family and just how much she needs Fate, especially during hard times.
Scanlation Group: Nanofate.us
As a NanoFate fan I loved this, but if you don’t know the series or in particular StrikerS, then you should probably not read this since this will pretty much not make sense to you. But all the NanoFate fans should definitely read this!
18+ works:
Titel: Lament/ Lament -Hope or Despair-Artist: isya (434 Not Found)
Pairing: Mana x Rikka (Doki Doki Precure)
Genre: Adult, Angst, Drama, Yandere
Description: The sheer love Rikka has for Mana as well as the fact that she just can’t get herself to reveal these feelings, slowly drive Rikka carzy to the extent that she starts having hallucinations that drive her even deeper into despair.
Scanlation Group: Yuri-ism
I think this was the first time for me to read such a dark story by isya, but knowing that she’s the artist of this, you can be sure to find a certain amount of sex in these and surprisingly this dark atmosphere went very well with the way she portrayed the sex in here too.
Titel: EilaNyaX
Artist: nwonyo pasun
Pairing: Eila x Sanya (Strike Witches)
Genre: Adult, Cat Ears
Description: Eila and Sanya slowly take their relationship a step further.
Scanlation Group: Yuri-ism and Team Vanilla
This doujin is part of the reason why I finally started watching Strike Witches. It’s really too cute to put it into words… I think I’m now shipping SanyaxEila~
Titel: Your Breath on my LipsArtist: Cocoa Break
Pairing: Nao x Reika (Smile Precure)
Genre: Adult
Description: Since Nao and Reika keep receiving love letters for each other from their classmates, they decide to not accept these anymore and reconfirm their love for another while making this promise.
Scanlation Group: Yuri-ism
This is just a totally adorable and sweet story about one of my favorite pairings, acting all lovey dovey and cute. And that’s exactly how I like it best!

I often search for scanlations and try to show my appreciation. If a well known scanlation is working on a project, i wait for them; that's why i usually forget certain titles but that's ok 😛
Well i'm happy to confirm that Dear my Teacher would be a long one, i was hoping for that! Yuri Project is giving love to Flag Time and Comprehensive Tovarisch, let's hope for it to stay that way!
Already read all of these, except maybe for the NanoFate one, as i haven't seen the series (but i do read all of the NanoFate doujinshi from yuri-ism, that site's my weakness).
Thanks for the update! I would like (if i can suggest anything) to see your recommendations on older (manga) works, i think that i keep an eye on every recent release, but i'm always thinking how i must be missing some amazing older gems… the thought doesn't let me sleep, haha xD

Haha so Yuri-ism is your weakness? I think I actually have to agree, no other Scanlation group manages to release almost solely manga and doujinshi that I come to love 🙂
And I'm sure I can help you out, but it will take some time until I'll make another of these lists since I have a lot of stuff to review right now.
But next time, I'll focus on some older works.
It's a pretty good idea since many older manga are quickly forgotten even though so many people liked them when they were still ongoing. So thanks for making that suggestion 🙂

You know, I read yuri occasionally but do work in yaoi scanlation. And this still pisses me off. Even in that fandom, much larger than this one, I wouldn't start playing favorites. You are not reading Naruto, people won't swoop in when a series you're reading is abandoned because the people working on it realize they could do better things with their time than catering to people who aren't appreciating it.
Unless you are happy with a single group's output, you should think about what impression your comments leave people with who spend weeks of their time on something people won't even take a few seconds to say thanks for.

First of all, I edit manga as well, so I'm fully aware of the time that needs to be spent working on even a short one-shot.
Also, I usually take the time to say thank you, when something is released that I was either waiting for or that I really enjoyed and it doesn't matter which group worked on it.
I don't really understand why you have a problem with people who have favorite scanlation groups.
If one group almost solely releases stuff that you come to like, then of course you like them more than other groups.
What's wrong with that?
What if someone from another scanlation groups comes here and reads my comment about me liking Yuri-ism the most? They most likely won't care, why should they? It doesn't affect them in any way, since it doesn't mean I appreciate what they do any less.

i mean it doesn't have to be about time stopping but the personality of the characters and the way the relationship is viewed. I liked murakami's personality and the way her relationship is set up. i am excited for your next recommendations.
