Since my Yuri Anime List of 2013 kind of sucks, I decided to make a better one for 2014. Right now, I can of course only list the few shows with yuri or at least yuri subtext that are either airing right now or that are announced to air sometime this year. So this list will be updated whenever I see a new yuri show or hear about one from other people.
Still, since it’s just impossible for me to watch each and every anime that is airing, I’d also appreciate if you’d just tell me whenever you feel like something in my list is missing. Finally, I’d like to tell you that I’ll add a “Yuri Rating” to each and every show I’ll list. This will be my personal impression of how much yuri the show has to offer, so if I still haven’t watched the show that is listed, I’ll add this rating a little later. If you suggest a show, it is always appreciated if you could give the yuri rating a score from 1-10.
With that said, let’s move on to the list, and even if it’s just the beginning of 2014, it’s already quite huge~
Description: The story is set at Myoujou Academy, a private girls’ boarding school. The 10th year’s Kurogumi class has 12 assassins with their sights on one target, Haru Ichinose. Tokaku Azuma is a recent transfer student who is also targeting Ichinose, but she gradually develops feelings for Ichinose.
Yuri Rating: 5/10 — The internet is going nuts over some Akuma no Riddle ships, yet the anime itself didn’t really have that much subtext. Such a pity, but I still love all the ships~

Description: The relationship between Yuuta and Rikka starts to develop slowly in their own unique way as they begin to live together with Kuzuha under one roof. However, “chuunibyou”-plagued Satone, Yuuta’s old acquaintance, showed up in the most unexpected place and time; challenging their budding, yet fragile relationship. Meanwhile, the rest of the Oriental Magick Napping Society in Summer club members continue to expand their own unique selves and relationships with one another.

Description: About a month after the events of the first manga, a new mission to normalize the Earth’s pulsations come up. However, when Ilya tries to subdue the pulsations….
Yuri Rating: 5/10 — If you’re simply looking for meaningless yuri kisses and assaults, or if you’re just in for some comedy, try this!

Description: In the town of Nagarekawa, Nanako Usami, an ordinary high school girl, is approached by her uncle to become a local idol or “Locodol,” partnering with upperclassman Yukari Kohinata to form the idol unit, Nagarekawa Girls. As the girls use their talent to promote Nagarekawa and their businesses, they are joined by Yui Mikoze, who acts as the local mascot, and Mirai Nazukari, who serves as Yui’s substitute.

Description: A TV anime adaptation of Girlfriend (Kari), a mobile game where players can have girlfriends through playing the game. Shiina Kokomi is a hard working but even tempered high school girl who is the lead performer in her school’s rhythmic gymnastics club. The story follows her and her growing circle of friends as they support each other through the various trials and situations that comprise high school life.

Description: Go! Go! 575 adapts the Project 575 games for PlayStation Vita and iOS, which allow anyone to create songs using the traditional Japanese 5-7-5-syllable meter found in haiku and tanka poems.
Yuri Rating: 6/10 — The yuri is there, but where’s the plot? If that doesn’t make any sense, just watch it. It’s not like this will take away a lot of your precious free time.

Description: Cocoa arrives at the cafe Rabbit House one day, excited for rabbits. She actually all but lives in that cafe. She meets lots of different girls there, including a tiny and cool girl named Chino, a tough and soldier-esque girl named Rize, a spacey and quintessentially Japanese girl named Chiyo, and the ordinary but dignified Sharo.
Yuri Rating: 3/10 — There is no real yuri, but at least we got a yuri-ish character.

Description: Normal appearance, normal intelligence, normal in arts and sports, just normal. This is the entirely normal 14-year-old, Naru Sekiya. While she admires “heroines” she continues to live a normal life until one moonlit night she meets a fairy. This foreign girl then guides her into the extraordinary world of the yosakoi dance.

Description: Fushimi Inari is a shy, not-so-bright middle school girl living in Kyoto’s Fushimi ward. She has a crush on her classmate Tanbabashi, but cannot express her feelings. One day, as thanks for helping a fox pup, the deity Ukanomitama-no-kami grants her the ability to change her form.
Yuri Rating: 4/10 — This anime only features one yuri character, or at least we only know of one right now. Also, since this one will only have 10 episodes, there probably won’t be much development in this department. Furthermore, the more yuri-ish actions take place in later chapters of the manga anyway.

Description: About best friends Inugami Yachiyo and Nekoyama Suzu. Inugami likes cats and has a dog-like personality. Nekoyama likes dogs and has a cat-like personality.
Yuri Rating: 10/10 — Unlike Sakura Trick, this pure yuri show doesn’t show any kisses, yet the yuri level still couldn’t be any higher~

Description: In a high school where students possess uniforms that give them various powers and abilities, student council president Kiryuuin Satsuki rules by force. However, a transfer student named Matoi Ryuuko stands in her way, wielding a scissor sword and a possessed school uniform.
Yuri Rating: 4/10 — There is no real yuri, but there are already so many possible pairings and to be honest, some of them just match.

Description: Kobeni Yonomori is a high school girl who lives with her mother and older sister Benio. Upon turning sixteen, Kobeni is shocked to learn that, due to an arrangement by her late grandfather, she is engaged to a boy named Hakuya Mitsumine who, along with his little sister Mashiro, come to live with Kobeni. As Kobeni spends time adjusting to this new family, she learns there is more to Hakuya and Mashiro than meets the eye.
Yuri Rating: 4/10 — Pretty much all the yuri springs from the great Benio-sama, a lolicon with a sister-complex.

Description: There is a new team of Toei robot girls named Team Z that is made up of three girls based on Toei’s Mazinger Z franchise. Usually they perform in activities around Nerima ward in Tokyo to raise the awareness of the promising future energy source “Photon Power”. However, there are times when “Mechanical Beast” team of girls emerge from the Subterranean Empire and attempt to steal the energy. Thus Team Z has to battle them to prevent this, though sometimes they just go and beat up the bad girls to relieve stress.

Description: In the romance comedy, a girl named Mitsuki Kanzaki lives with her step-brother Yuuya after her mother remarries. One day, Mitsuki is possessed by the self-proclaimed spirit of a young girl, Hiyori Kotobuki. Hiyori (in Mitsuki’s body) must fall in love with Yuuya to move toward the “Gates of Heaven”.
Yuri Rating: 4/10 (for sex) — Yuri scenes only happen within the first few episodes, but they are pretty intense. However, you should decide for yourself whether that’s a good or a bad thing.

Description: Sequel to the Saki series, covering the Inter High School Mahjong Championships.
Yuri Rating: 3/10 — I haven’t watched more than one episode yet, so feel free to leave me your rating suggestion.

Description: The story revolves around Haruka and Yuu, two girls who go to a high school that is slated to be shut down in three years. To share something special between them, they share a kiss, and their relationship deepens from that moment onward.
Yuri Rating: 10/10 — It’s a pure yuri show with probably more yuri kisses than all the yuri kisses we’ve gotten within the last few years altogether.

Description: Hazama Masayoshi has decided to become the superhero Samurai Flamenco in spite of having no special abilities or modifications. Goto Hidenori is a police officer who learns his secret identity by chance, which causes him all sorts of trouble.

Description: Hope, desire, greed. Girls with each of these feelings in their hearts are being swallowed into the vortex of a dangerous game…

Description: This side-story to the main series focuses on a freshman halberd named Tsugumi Harudori, who befriends two other meisters, Meme Tatane and Anya Hepburn. All three take part in the NOT (Normally Overcome Target) class at DWMA and learn to control their powers in order to overcome their difficulties to have a normal life, as opposed to the battle-oriented EAT (Especially Advanced Talent) class taken by Maka, Soul, and their companions.
Yuri Rating: 5/10 — Surprisingly, this show has some really strong, yet still innocent, subtext~

Description: The story takes place in the era of the gods, year 300. Yuuna Yuuki lives an ordinary life as a second year middle school student, but she’s also a member of the “Hero Club,” where club activities involve dealing with a mysterious being called “Vertex.”
Samurai Flamenco needs to be in here! http://i.imgur.com/HUCVDG4.jpg Spoilers for the show. The yuri's not the main focus, and they're side-characters, but yeah, this show needs to be in your list. Then there's Robot Girls Z. In the first episode it was mostly vague subtext, but episode 2 boosted things quite a bit and we even got this http://i.imgur.com/Nfjv50N.jpg . Chuuni has had subtext going on between Nibutani and Dekomori, but it's not the strongest, so that might not be worth adding. Witch Craft Works has an actual couple, but they split up (not because of liking each other less) because they couldn't really have kids like that. They still definitely like each other. World Conqueror Zvezda has a girl who definitely is in love with the loli conqueror, and then there's subtext going on between other girls and the conqueror, so there's that. Wake up, Girls! has some subtext going on between the members, though it's not too much really.Z/X Ignition has some subtext between the android girl and her partner, though her partner seems to have caught the “I'm in a harem show so I have to like the guy” bug. So…not sure how that'll work out.
I think that's everything for this season so far…

Thanks a lot for the additions 🙂
Samurai Flamenco will definitely make it into the list, how could I miss this one?!
Robot Girls Z will probably also make it, but I'm not so sure about the rest, since it seems many of them would only get a Yuri Rating of 1/10, which is like nothing.
Still, before I'll add anything, could you give me a Yuri Rating for Samurai Flamenco and Robot Girls Z? I haven't watched the shows, so I have no idea how to rate them.
LikeLike
Well, For Sam Flam, they ARE side-characters, though they do get a fair amount of screentime in some of the episodes, and the yuri stemmed mostly only from Moe at first. So, comparing this with Engaged,…I'd say 5/10. It's not as focused on as in Engaged, but it actually goes somewhere. So that seems like a fair one.
With Robot Girls Z, the yuri has been steadily increasing throughout, but the show is only getting 3 episodes really unfortunately 😦 The third episode may push things even further, but since the yuri is between two of the main characters, I'd probably say 5/10 as well. Because, while that scene I linked did happen, it was more of a drunken stupor kind of thing (though everyone else was affected by the same thing, but they were the only two partaking in that), yet the earlier parts of the episode showed some pretty strong subtext between the two. So, probably 5/10 as well. Episode 3 will really be what determines the final rating of the show.

I started watching it and the show itself is really not my thing. Also I think the yuri won't be much, but I try to deal with it and hope for some more yuri 😛

If you can give me a rating for the yuri from 1-10 for this one I'll add it right away 😉
I don't think I'll watch this very soon since I'd have to watch the previous season(s) too.

Saki: Zenkoku-hen lost it's yuri undertone the first season had. Mostly it's just Mahjong with cute effects T__T after 3 episodes I realized I could spend 30mins on something more enjoyable. (Just my opinion! Yuri = 0/10)

I only watched the first 2 episodes of the new Saki season and I just didn't enjoy it, but I was hoping to see some yuri, which didn't happen.
Thanks for the rating 🙂 But if it's really 0/10, then I'll leave it out of the list, at least for now.

Just watched the first 8 episodes of sakura trick and i think was over loaded with the kisses

But that's partly the reason why people love it so much.

I too just got finish watching the first 8 episodes of Sakura trick and I do agree the kissing is over the top. But it's still a good show that I get excited about. It would seem 2014 is the year of Yuri. I saw a youtube teaser featuring the yuri of this year and I'm really looking forward to Akuma No Riddle. Although it's quite sad school girls or magical girls are the only yuri out there; I think that's why I'm looking forward to Akuma No Riddle because, yes, its school girls, but it's different and seems to be action/thriller/suspence. So I'm glad I found this blog because I'm sure it's bound to keep me updated.
P.S. Thanks for the rating; I tend to enjoy yuri more than shoujo-ai and anything less than a 7.5/10 is more than likely shoujo-ai, if that. In other words, I like kissing and love scenes. =) Thanks for this upate.

Keep at it, the yuri will be there. It just took some episodes for the show to really hit its stride is all.
LikeLike
I'm glad you find this helpful 🙂
But I don't really use the word “Shoujo Ai” anymore, for me Yuri and Shoujo Ai are the same, but if the show is 18+ or even borderline adult, then I'll put “Adult” or “Ecchi” in the genre list.
I think I'd also like to see some yuri outside of the typical school setting, but even in manga this is rare…
Well, you should be looking forward to the second season of Psycho Pass. Hopefully the yuri characters will get a little more screen time this season.

I'm quite unmotivated to watch this, but if the yuri really is there, then I'll maybe continue it.
When this season is over, I hope someone is nice enough to tell me the yuri rating of this. Maybe it's high enough to get me into the show again.

Kuma Arashi got announced!?
Also, I'm betting we'll have a lot more potential for yuri throughout this year. For one, Yama no Susume (Encouragement of Climb) is showing up in Summer. Then there's an anime that's trying to be made into a franchise with a game and everything (Mahou Shoujo Taisen), and the game has a fair amount of yuri subtext what little I've played it.
Plus, there's Soul eater NOT, which talks about a yuri love triangle in the PV. Though the main character seems to have wanted a different sort of relationship, she ended up with two girls after her xD I haven't read the manga though, this is just from the PV.
Then you've got Illya S2 in Summer, Miyu already showed very romantic feelings towards the main character (they even kissed! Though Illya didn't meant to do it, Miyu enjoyed it very much, and grew a bit yandere, though not violently so) during season 1, so I expect we'll see more with the second season.
Then of course there's all those “Cute girls doing cute things” shows that are going to be airing throughout this year.
Basically, I'm sure your list will continue to grow by leaps and bounds as the year goes on 😉
Also, Chuuni should be on here, but the yuri rating is sorta low as while it's blatantly obvious that the two of them are into each other, it's also never exactly made 'true'? Everyone around them realizes it, but the two are too tsun towards each other to admit that there's something there xD So, probably a 4/10 (boosted a bit with Shinka's big speech in episode 8) Plus, there was the blatantly obvious yuri stalker that definitely wanted Sanae for herself. But she disappears after episode 8. Thankfully, she was kinda creepy…
SamFlam…was such an odd show. I'm sorry I convinced you to watch it. I found it entertaining enough, but it's not a show I can really recommend to others.

Added Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! Ren to the list. This series has been on my to-watch-list for so long, it's about time I should watch it as well…
I really hope that the list will grow even bigger 😉 2014 is surely a great year for us and there is hopefully much more to come.
I can't wait~

I think the rating 5/10 will do. It's for the glances, pairings (and possible pairings), and yuri undertones(not much though). The yuri undertones became less and it's more about mahjong but considering its length it is understandable after all, the focus is the tournament.
LikeLike
A 5/10 is still pretty high, and since it doesn't even have much undertones, let's go with a 3/10 for the time being.

She was right to begin with, you were wrong for posting that. Go make your own site anon and post it there. Yuri means “girl's love” as in: “You know what these chicks doing in that closet, so let me drill this hole through the side, grab yourself a seat and some popcorn and shut the f*ck up!”. You know why gays are in the closet? Because of pricks like you persecuting them for no good reason! Perhaps they live in an environment where they CAN'T tell anyone about their sexuality because they'll lose everything they have and maybe even the love and support of their own family. Haven't you even stopped to think about that? Sure, I understand there a SOME incidences where a so-called gay would remain in the closet, such as: NOT REALLY BEING GAY, cheating, some strange bi-sexual love triangle, etc. Since when did they start using witchcraft? Are you on drugs? (I know I am! jk :P) Did they get stuck in the wardrobe and fall into Narnia, so as result, they had to learn sorcery to break some gay spell in order to escape??! F*cking dumb a**, of course they DIDN'T! Jesus, maybe YOU should have stayed in the closet, maybe then, people would be spared from your bullsh*t! (NEVER post shit like this and have me see it, moose will blast you.)

Locodol has a potential for yuri if you haven't checked it out yet. It's only two episodes in, but the second episode really does give us yuri fans hope for future episodes. ^^; Yuri rating… maybe a 3/10 for now, but potential for more. 🙂

Have seen the first 2 episodes of Locodol and 'll definitely have to add that as well.
A 3/10 is probably the perfect score for it right now 🙂
I will do so when I have some other things to add to the list, which will probably not take that long anymore.

I recommend Simoun Sasmeki Koto and yuru yuri (id explain them but i did it the 1st time and accidently didnt publish 2 lazy to do it again @.@) but they are good to be brief simoun isnt exactly much on the girlfriend relationship they kiss alottt but its 2 power up some special machine (there is some couple love thing in it but not as much as you would want XD) Sasameki Koto (whispered words) is a great one but the full series is on the manga 51 episodes the animated series is only 13 episodes long and ended before we got too what we really wanted to see (watch and you'll find out) and Yuru Yuri is a great one very funny has a great storyline not much for the kissing most yuri moments (happen alot) are from one of the characters fantasies except for a few special episodes but its all in all a great show if ur looking for a nice funny storyline i recommend it.

Akuma no Riddle's manga definitely had more Yuri than in the anime. I mean like, Hitsuji kissing the red hair (I forgot her name so, used her traits)? That was yuri smack in my breakfast omelet.

No problem, I know that the comment function sometimes doesn't work.
I can't add either of the anime you named, because this is only a list of the ones that aired or will air in 2014.
Simoun, Sasameki Koto and Yuru Yuri all aired some years ago.
Though I should probably add the Yuru Yuri OVA, so thanks 😛
