Let’s see what this past week had in store for us yuri fans. Just a warning, you better prepare yourself for what is coming.
As we all know, there was a mysterious Citrus PV announced just about a week ago. I speculated that it could be a PV for an anime adaptation, while others tried to find a more likely explanation for a possible Citrus PV.
As it turns out, I was wrong, and I’m not that surprised. An anime adaptation was just too good to be true, though, even if it didn’t happen now, I won’t give up hope that easily! If Citrus is popular enough to get something like this, I’m sure there is still hope for even more.
Now what did we get? Watch for yourself:
I know I expected more, but damn I’m so hyped right now! Even if this is just a short manga recap, I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. It looks really good, but what is most important is definitely the fact that Mei and Yuzu got their own voices.
This is usually the most exciting part of seeing a manga getting an anime adaptation, and even if this is just a 3-minute long video, I love it for the simple fact that they kind of took this manga to the next level by adding voices. Still, I have to admit, even though the voices are really fitting, I always imagined Yuzu’s voice to be a little more girly and Mei’s voice to be a little deeper and probably even sexier.
I’m sure that I’m not the only one seeing it this way, but even so, I’m still really happy with the outcome.
Yeah, I know, this should be a news post and here I am fangirling about Citrus, but please bear with me. I’ll change topics now, so let’s move on.
A few days ago, we finally got some more news about the upcoming anime Yuri Kuma Arashi Here’s a short description:
Some time ago, the asteroid Kumaria exploded in the depths of space.
The resulting fragments became a meteor shower that rained down on Earth, and for some reason, bears all over the world rose up and ttacked humanity! In “Man vs. Bear,” the bears ate the humans and the humans shot the bears, resulting in a seemingly unending battle and a cycle of hatred. In the end, a giant “Wall of Extinction” was erected between the humans and bears and a state of mutual nonaggression came to pass….
The human world.
One morning, Arashigaoka Academy students Kureha Tsubaki and Sumika Izumino were by themselves and saw the “Yuri Flower” that bloomed in a flower bed. The two are friends as well as lovers. The flower bed is an important place to the two. At that moment, the Bear Alarms ring out! The bears are invading the human world, and humans are being attacked! Are they really those bears? One mystery invokes yet another mystery, one after another. The curtain rises magnificently on Yuri Kuma Arashi!

What to say to this story…. I really don’t know.
This sounds so messed up and random that I can’t see how this is going to be any good, though I shouldn’t judge it this early. The trailer actually looks pretty good.
Well, we don’t really see much other than the seemingly high animation quality, but it’s better than nothing, so here you go:
The first episode will premier in January 2015, so let’s just see how things will look then. Right now, I’m not that hyped about Yuri Kuma Arashi, but I already know that this might change really quickly.

I still believe. This is just the next step down the road for the citrus anime. Yes, another yuri show. I was scared that we wouldn't get another yuri anime for a few seasons.

You know how I feel about Citrus so I won't say a word.
On to YKA. If the staff did not mainly consist of people who worked on Penguindrum I would not be as concerned as I was when I first covered the trailer…or even when this anime project was announced. I do hope Ikuhara stays true to his plan to “revolutionize the yuri genre with this anime”. His followers have faith in him delivering. We'll have to wait and see.

I really like their voices…… It could be a great anime. How long does it take to translate the new chapter in english? I want to traduce it in french but I don't understand japanese…..

Reading about revolutionizing the yuri genre gets me kind of hyped.
It sounds so nice, yet I don't know how that's gonna happen with a plot like that.
But yeah, you're right, let's just wait and see.

Yuri Project takes like 4 to 6 weeks if I remember correctly.
But there are other sub groups that do it within just a few days. It won't be uploaded to the Dynasty Reader by any other group than Yuri Project, so you need to keep an eye on some others.

Darn…it really was a manga PV like shinozaki-san. And here I thought to myself that maybe we would at least get a drama CD or ova preview.

I have to agree with you, the PV was pretty good.
Everywhere I looked people said the same about the voices as you did. I didn't have any expectations and really like them, especially Yuzu's.
But due of the different color palette the third book looks really weird when it stands next to the other two or am I the only one who thinks so?

We at least still have a Yuru Yuri ova/movie coming in December so that's a slight relife to this almost yuri-less Autumn/Winter. I don't think we can expect any more yuri anime for 2014 which felt like the start of a Yuri revolution when we had so many (AkumaNoRiddle + SakuraTrick+Illya Zwei
omg omg omg omg omg omg i cant stop my fanboying!!!!!!!!!!!! i love the manga so much and this pv was just so great for us fans!!!!!!!! im almost 100% sure that sakura ayane was voicing yuzu for the pv but im not too sure about mei or matsuri and i agree that the voices are definitely fitting but i also agree with you about how mei's voice should be more deeper and a little sexier and yuzu's voice should be definitely be a little more girly. now we just have to hope that citrus can get an anime either that or a drama cd would be nice

I think it'll be imilar to Strike Witches when it comes to yuri.

It's not my line, but what Ikuhara probably means is changing the yuri genre from how we know it now.
Maybe you could say, taking yuri to the next level, though I don't see how this could be achieved.

Scanning 40 pages alone can take hours depending what kind of scanner you use.
Then you have to resize the pictures, rotate them, level them, clean them and in some cases even redraw some parts.
This is so hard that you can hardly do this within a day, it's even hard to get this done within a week.
You also have to translate the work, typeset everything and qualitiycheck is a few times.
This is hard work and it takes a long while.

Having a PV like this is already prove enough that Citrus must be popular, so let's see how things will develop.

I know I shouldn't say this just yet, but I have high hopes for 2015.
Not only that it starts out with Yuri Kuma Arashi, we'll also get Strike Witches, Kantai Kollection and probably even more.

Much fangirling right now. I can't even. xD I also though Mei's voice was gonna be “jizz in your pants” sultry, but the audition pool may not have been diverse. I'm sure many other voice actresses could've done that deep, sexy voice (like Koshimizu Ami <3) Oh well...
I'm glad that Yuzu's voice isn't annoying, though. I was afraid that (should there be an anime adaptation) Yuzu's character would be ruined because of an annoying, high-pitched voice, but I can see how Yuzu can have that kind of voice. I personally don't prefer it. Can't wait for what the future holds for yuri! 😀

Don't forget this one: Koufuku Graffiti's anime of 2015.
It's a manga series about food and girl-only cast that runs in the same magazine MangaTime group Sakura Trick came from. It's more girl-centric moe like many others we've had before (like Yuyushiki).

I thought Yuzu's voice will be a little bit lighter, and more cheerful than what we get. Is it the same seiyuu as Yuzuki from WIXOSS ?

I doubt it is yuri; I ordered the books and read thru them but it's more something that needs y-goggles on. I don't think there's subtext either.
What else are we also looking to next year in total? Kancolle, StrikeWitches, NonNonBiyoriS2, Nanoha Vivid, YuruYuri OVA this Dec., …..
…is that it for now? I can't think of any else.

You already said you wouldn't but are you gonna try the 2nd season of WIXOSS anime? (selector spread WIXOSS) . 'cause things just got nasty (in a nice plot way+yandere,et) with latest episode 8. I can't even call WIXOSS a Madoka ripoff anymore. AHAHHAHAAHAHAH , yeah, you shuld probably try out 2nd season. “Just do it”

Yeay, habe mir jetzt auch mal nen Account eingerichtet 😀 Wie viele Follower haste hier eigentlich ca.? Ich hatte mir Yuzu auch etwas mehr girly vorgestellt, aber im nachhinein dachte ich mir, dass die Stimme doch sehr gut passt. Und ja ich finde auch, dass Mei's etwas sexier sein könnte. ABER! Da Mei ja ein bisschen verkorkst ist, wenn ich das so sagen darf haha, empfinde ich diese monotone Sprechweise an der ein oder anderen Stelle auch sehr gut synchronisiert. Und diese Befehlston am Anfang hrhr! Also ich bin rundum zufrieden und schaue mir das Video gerne immer und immer wieder an hehe
