Yuri Tournament – Who’s The Best Yuri Character? – The Champion

After months of voting and after so many great rounds, we finally have our Yuri Champion, that is Yuzu Aihara.

No matter how close this final round was, I am very sure that this comes a a big surprise. Yuzu did not only beat her significant other, she also beat Yuri Legends, such as Chikane, and now even Homura.

To celebrate this great victory, as well as honor this amazing Yuri Character, we decided to put up a new header for YuriReviews.

For a whole month, this new header will decorate the blog and remind us of our Yuri Champion – Yuzu Aihara.

So congratulations on your victory today!

So now, that the tournament has come to an end, I’d like to hear your thoughts. Did you expect such an outcome? Are you happy with it? And also, did you enjoy the tournament?

  1. To the victor go the spoils. I should have known that Yuzu would take it. It must've been the blonde vote that put her over the top. That makes perfect sense, since Homura did beat Fate, so the blondes (and blonde lovers) rose up and voted Yuzu the champion. 🙂

    HIP HIP HOORAY!!!

  2. Yeah yeah, you like that 😛
I think I shouldn't take sides though. Oh, whoop, I think I already did.

So yeah, damn it, Homura didn't win. At least in the comments I can say that I would have loved to see her win more 😦

  3. I would say Citrus is liked. Its considered by the hardcore yuri base as mainatream, cliched garbage. (Which I agree with to an extent. I read it still for its admitdley awsome art. Read comments on Dynasty scans for an example of how much people hate it) It however, is insanley popular.

While Im very disappointed…meh. I know Citrus is terriebly written. It won because of its popularity. No reason to get angry or salty over it.

    Oh my God …
    Really ???
I wanted to win Yuzu, but did not believe that it really achieved.
    O__O
So proud of Yuzu, but good as Homura said Yuri actually never did so I think it's okay to beat him but to stay No. 1 ???
He was sure he would come to the semifinals, but not what would remain of winning !!!
    So proud.

  5. Dang, was hoping Homura would actually win, at least it was fairly close. To be honest, I didn't care for either, just preferred Homura slightly more, all my favorites died long ago.

Either way, this whole tournament was extremely fun! Hope something like this happens again in the near future.

  6. For who really loves yuri just a beautiful love story between girls is enough, dont need to have a great plot

  7. LOL! Wouldn't she have gone back in time the moment Madoka lost? =P

Yuzu is tart, but as it turns out – delicious. I still can't get over the fact that it was so close! 16 votes! 8 people voting the other way could have tied things up!

This was really fun, you guys! Thanks for this awesome series of posts!

  8. Oh man, I lost faith in this challange after all of my favorites lost. But Yuzu saved the day at last 🙂 At least for a bit.

  9. While I have no problem with Yuzu winning & kind of expected this result, still… I love DebiHomu too much to not feel sad about seeing her actually lost… ; A ;

  10. Love the tournament idea, but I can't help but feel a little disappointed that one of the classic yuri characters like Chikane and Shizuma didn't win. Then again, Yuzu isn't too bad 🙂

  11. I sorta followed along the tournament, voted in a couple of the rounds, but… how the hell did Yuzu, of all characters, win? I just… I don't understand it. I might even be a bit salty about this, and I'm rarely if ever salty. It's just crazy to me.

    Freakin' Yuzu. Freakin' Citrus.

  12. I agree to that last statement.
I can also kind of understand the rage that is going on, but I really don't get why people call it garbage.

Many things are truly shit, Citrus isn't. At least give it some credit for the art. The story you can call shit, but don't call it shit in general.

  13. I am relatively new to this genre and have only read a few manga in the Yuri Genre, Citrus being one of them, I wouldn't say Citrus is garbage or anything. because during my introduction to Yuri manga, I have read some that were a ton more shit than some people have pointed out.

over all I am partially surprised that Yuzu ended up winning this tournament. but I am also happy to see a new comer arrive for the spotlight. but I am willing to bet that if say 3-4 times as many people voted, Homura would have won, that is something I am willing to admit, since I did vote for Yuzu.

also coming in second there is no shame to that, because at least she made it to the final which is something other characters didn't do.

  14. I like Yuzu and all but c'mon really? She's no where near better a character than Homura and Citrus is not as good as Madoka Magica series. Oh well, better luck next time I guess.

  15. I dont really get why ppl talk so bad about citrus. I see alot Yuri Anime and Yuri Manga and i dont really get what is that makes so a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge difference to the others. Some ppl should think about it that way: Since Citrus gets so popular it might bring new ppl to the yuri genre that will also enjoy now that the now yuri stuff because of citrus can enjoy the other yuri manga/anime.

  16. Thank you, I hope some people will actually see this comment, because it's really important.

In a few days, I'd also like to post another “Let's talk about..” post, guess what it will be about 😉

  17. The thing that actually surprised me the most is the fact that a manga character won.
It's not just Yuzu, Akko made it really far too. That's so surprising.

  18. That is true.
As you can all see from the screenshot of the poll results, we had around 600 people taking part in this last voting.
This is an laughable amount of people compared to how big our yuri community must actually be.

Whenever we have more readers – if that might actually ever happen – we will repeat this tournament, and I'm sure it will end in a different way.
