It’s been a while since the last News Update, so we have a lot to get to this time around. Let’s get started~
Starting off with everyone’s new favorite yuri hentai anime, Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid Specials are on the way. They’re mini OVA episodes that will come bundled with the Blu-ray and DVD releases of Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid. Volume 1 goes on sale on December 18th in Japan, so until Volume 6 is released in May 2016, we’ll have even more Mirei x Mamori goodness to feast our eyes on. It’s kind of disappointing that they’re only “mini” episodes, but let’s hope we see even more yuridiculous moments with these specials.
Also being announced a while back was plenty of Hibike! Euphonium news to get excited about. A recap movie, Hibike! Euphonium Movie: Kitauji Koukou Suisougaku-bu e Youkoso, as well as a second season have been given the greenlight. The recap movie is fine, but what’s really exciting is news of another season. Everyone fell in love with KumiRei, and after hearing all of the complaints voiced by the legions of yuri fans, let’s hope KyoAni comes to their senses and gives us what we really want. The movie is currently set for April 2016, while season two’s premiere is yet to be determined. If you can’t quite wait that long, don’t forget that an unaired episode (Hibike! Euphonium: Kakedasu Monaka) is being released alongside the seventh Blu-Ray and DVD volumes, which hit Japanese shelves on the 16th.

It feels like it’s been an eternity that we’ve been talking about Liar Soft’s Kindred Spirits on the Roof, but soon, it’ll be less talking and more playing as MangaGamer has announced that the Yuri VN is 100% translated and 95% edited. As if a new Yuri VN wasn’t already a big deal, the fact that it’s going to be coming uncensored to Steam pushes the hype machine to a whole another level. There seems to be a lot of yuri hopes and dreams associated with this, so let’s hope it gets met with the kind of reception that’ll open the door for more Yuri VNs to be localized and accepted by the mainstream. There still isn’t a firm release date yet, but be ready for this to drop sometime in the very near future.
What’s a News Update without a bit of SonoHana news? Well, it’s some late news, but better late than never. Fuguriya has recently released a visual novel adaptation of the online novel series Sono Hanabira ni Kuchizuke wo – Yuririn. An all-new chapter devoted to Mai and Reo will accompany the story spanning 2014-2015.
Here’s the plot summary, translated by Ralen: Risa, her weight in extremely (beep) condition due to all those delicious snacks and tea, has resolved to go on a diet! However… cutting sweets out of your diet is extremely hard, so seeing how much Risa is suffering, Mai recommends a cycling diet. Hearing how Mai already successfully lost five kilograms, Risa is extremely interested!
This is all-ages, but it sounds like it’s another cute entry in the series. Mai x Reo also get some love in it, so sign me up! For more information, visit Petals’ Garden.

This next bit of news is interesting, since it’s an anime movie that could have some yuri potential. Harmony is based on the 2009 Nihon SF Taisho award-winning novel of the same name by the late Project Itoh. Here’s the description: “In the future, Utopia has finally been achieved thanks to medical nanotechnology and a powerful ethic of social welfare and mutual consideration. This perfect world isn’t that perfect though, and three young girls stand up to totalitarian kindness and super-medicine by attempting suicide via starvation. It doesn’t work, but one of the girls—Tuan Kirie—grows up to be a member of the World Health Organization. As a crisis threatens the Harmony of the new world, Tuan rediscovers another member of her suicide pact, and together they must help save the planet… from itself.”
This appears to have a dark sociological theme going on that’s very different from what’s normally associated with yuri. Well, it’s unclear if this will really have any yuri, but the PVs certainly make it look like a possibility. Either way, I think this is one to keep an eye on.
Last but not least, another manga with yuri subtext is getting an anime adaptation in the form of New Game!. The story follows Aoba Suzukase, a high school girl who joins a game company post graduation. Her senior at the company happens to be the person who made the game that she loved in grade-school. The inner-workings of the company and the lives of the girls who work there will be the focus. Being only subtext, it’s easy to not be too excited, but we’re not ones to turn down yuri-ish anime, so the more the merrier. Now let’s get some news of actual yuri manga getting an anime adaptation. *cough*Citrus*cough*
Finally, I [Lena] would like to take over for the last piece of information. Just like last year, I’ll yet again be in Tokyo from the 23rd of December to the 4th of January. >During these 2 weeks, Rock will take over and provide you with anything needed. We’re yet again planning to revive the Review Fest that took place last year during the same time I was away.
For those that are not yet familiar with this term, it simply describes a period of time in which we’ll post new blog entries every two days. So during the two weeks I’ll be in Tokyo, you’ll get new post every second day
We already prepared some posts in advance, but we’re still not finished just yet. So if any of you want to contribute a review or anything else, just let us know. We’re now open for suggestions and especially guest reviews.
Here’s the guide on how to do a guest review on YuriReviews.
I highly doubt Hibike! Euphonium will go yuri. The biggest problem is that they would be changing the story and going against the authors wishes and i it is full yuri there will be some backlash. Like how nights of azure is all subtext, but nothing official.

I am pretty sure Nights of Azure is yuri (they kissed, etc.), but the translation by Tecmo might turn it into subtext…
KyoAni could go yuri, just look at Chuuni…
There is no Dekomori in original book, but there she is in anime, being lovey-dovey with Morisummer…
What? They might scream to one another but as they said in S2 OVA, the more they fight, the closer they become…

So psyched for Kindred spirits. So glad more VN's are getting a translation. The fact it's coming to steam is big news for both Steam and the yuri fans. I could go into a big ol rant about steam, but I feel this isn't the place for it. :p
Anywho, the fact it's cpomign to the biggest online platform for PC gaming is astronomically important to the growth of our genre, as you may have guessed. A big thank you to steam for not making them censor it as well!
Love you all ❤

I'm pretty excited for kindred spirits! Awesome that there's finally some news. And unfortunately, I heard that the light novel of Hibike! Euphonium has the main character dating the guy so I doubt there'll be any yuri.

On Valkyrie Drive topic – after all this episodes that aired, and plot that appeared recently, I might say that show isn't that bad as i was thinking it will be (it's not masterpiece, but i can enjoy it). Don't really like virgin girl, denial in her is strong. Specials so short – of course some silly fanservice, but i can live with that ;p
Yeah, excited on Hibike news. A little sad that movie will be recap, but next we will get 2nd season, so in the end it'a a win for us. I'm not gonna expect any real yuri from continuation, they will propably bait us again
(and to bury us, make kumiko x guy real)
Waiting for Kindred Spirits to be released, and waiting, and dont't playing anything else to be ready when it appears. I'm a little curious when 2nd yuri VN that i can't wait to “get in my hands” will be released – Flowers.
I have hope that we will get Citrus anime in the next 1,5 year (so propably i should catch the latest chapters that are in english, not gonna wait for YP translation anymore).
Have fun in Japan Lena ! \o/ Will you visit comiket again and write us a little report ?
off-topic: you saw that yuri drama that is airing now and have plot like citrus (a little) ?

From what I read, Hibike was not meant to have much or any yuri at all, so Kyoto Animation actually added it all in on their own.
It could mean that we'll get more in season two, but I really doubt it somehow..

I'm also really happy for getting a NSFW version of it 😛

Yup, true unfortunately.
But, they added in some yuri that wasn't even in the light novel. Or at least that's what I heard, so there is hope.

Thanks a lot 🙂
After I get back, I definitely plan on writing another recap of my time in Japan. Since I'll definitely visit the Comiket again, this will cover a big part if my post~
What do you mean with Yuri Drama that is airing right now though?
Do you mean the live action one?

Man I can't wait for Kindred Spirits's release. Do you know roughly how much it will cost or have a rough estimate? I hope they release the rest of the SH VNs on Steam (preferably uncensored/But I don't really as long as the don't alter the story).

I just found your blog, how the hell have I only found out about it now?
Harmony looks really cool, it somehow gives me Guilty Crown vibes, and I think Inori's song was sung by Egoist too?
Not convinced there will be yuri yet but I think it'll be a pretty cool anime appealing to more “mature” audiences too 😀
