Can you believe it? It’s been 2 years since I last updated this list?! Surely, a lot has changed in these 2 years, so it’s about time to add some new pairings to the list and update my thoughts on the ones that have been in there for years already~
10. Finé x Izetta (Shuumatsu no Izetta)Finé is already one of my favorite anime characters of 2016, while Izetta probably made it to my top 3 cutest anime characters of all-time. So even without pairing them up with each other, I’m absolutely in love with both of them. However, if you now ship them with each other, what emerges from this simple equation of Finé + Izetta, is simply heavenly.
Those two compliment each other wonderfully, with strong and badass Finé handling her beloved and oh so loyal Izetta with the utmost care.
Their scenes together are some of the most enjoyable moments in anime history, and it makes me wonder just why in the world there hasn’t been more fan art and doujinshi about them. It’s something that I really can’t understand, as to me, they seem like the perfect match~
9. Shizuku x Eris (Sono Hanabira)Shizuku and Eris are not just my favorite SonoHana couple, they’re actually my favorite couple of all the visual novels I’ve ever played. Both of them are two of the most gorgeous yuri characters ever, they’re a great comedy duo, and they are simply ultra cute together.
Furthermore, Shizuku is probably one of the most adorable, yet sexy, tsundere characters ever, and she surprisingly doesn’t even come with a loli body like most tsundere characters do. Eris, on the other hand, is very open with her feelings, maybe even a little too open. But it’s exactly this combination that leads to so many enjoyable and funny moments~
Oh, and I should probably mention that Eris is also a slightly dense and very perverted girl, which are of course some very promising character traits~
8. Shizuru x Natsuki (Mai-HiME/Mai-Otome)When it comes to Natsuki and Shizuru, my love for them partly originates from the anime and partly from all the great fanfiction. This is probably the yuri couple with the biggest amount of fanfiction available. On fanfiction.net alone, there are about 4,000 stories about them (number growing), and I can definitely understand why people would want to write about ShizNat. I mean, a badass tsundere and a sexy stalker? How promising does that sound?
Ah well. Anyway, there is a reason why these two have such a huge fanbase, so if you don’t know them already, why not check them out now? I suggest you start with some awesome doujinshi:

7. Chikane x Himeko (Kannazuki no Miko)Speaking of famous yuri anime couples, Chikane and Himeko are probably one of the most famous, if not the most famous, yuri couple in anime history, which is absolutely no surprise. Just look how gorgeous they are and how well they fit each other. It’s almost a crime that there is no second season of Kannazuki no Miko, and unfortunately, there aren’t even many doujinshi about them.
But still, we have at least something similar to a second season, and even though I didn’t really like Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora, it was definitely worth watching, if only for some more Himeko x Chikane Himiko x Kaon goodness.
6. Kanan x Mari (Love Live! Sunshine!!)Love Live! sure continued its heavy display of yuri subtext, even in the most recent season of gay school idols. Despite the fact that I had my problems getting to like the new cast, as soon as they threw in the yuri, and especially all the drama between Kanan and Mari, I just couldn’t help but fall in love with it all.
Seriously though, how could anyone not fall in love with these two after their heartfelt reunion and late night “haggu” in school? Who would not feel for crying Mari, who only wanted to be close to her precious (girl)friend? And who on Earth didn’t enjoy Mari’s constant attacks on Kanan’s two treasure chests?! Because I sure as hell couldn’t!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I gotta rewatch episode 9 again.

5. Nanoha x Fate (Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha)Somehow, NanoFate has really been everywhere. We got a lot of nice yuri subtext in each of the 3 anime seasons, some yuri subtext in the original manga, a huge amount of fun/cute/sexy NanoFate doujinshi, and a whole lot of really well written fanfiction.
However, the number of new fan works has decreased, which I find really unfortunate. Let’s all hope that this will change once the new movie will be out~

4. Mokou x Keine (Touhou)Ever since I started this blog, which is now many years ago, I’ve loved this pairing. As some of you might remember, they have always been my number one, and they actually managed to stay at the pole position of my list for like 3 years in a row. That’s how much I loved them.
As mentioned many times, this love originates from nothing more than what I still to this day consider the best doujinshi in the world, Vivit Gray’s MokoKeine collection. I have still not come across anything more enjoyable than those lovely and oh so cute and romantic doujinshi that this artist put together years ago. Unfortunately, there seemingly won’t be new ones anymore, and as much as I hate to admit, that’s probably the reason why this pairing might not be as relevant to me as it once was. Nevertheless, MokoKeine probably still won’t leave this list any time soon. Stay strong, you two!

3. Eri x Nozomi (Love Live!)Without a doubt, among all the possible yuri pairings in Love Live!, Eri x Nozomi is definitely the most satisfying one. Some refer to them as the two Love Live! goddesses, and I couldn’t agree more!
These two just have a really pleasant aura surrounding them, which makes pairing them with each other something that I just can’t resist doing. And even after the new Love Live! season, Love Live! Sunshine!!, I just can’t help but love them a bit more than precious Kanan x Mari.
There’s something about them, something in the way they interacted in the anime, something about the way they seemed to need to have the other one around, that I can’t help but love them more than even Nico x Maki and Kotori x Umi combined. And that is surely something quite amazing~

My recommendation: In Spring, In Summer, In Autumn, In Winter. Always With You! by Waterfall
2. Akagi x Kaga (Kantai Collection)I can already feel people glaring at me for putting them in second place. I know, this pairing hasn’t been around for too long, but can you really blame me for being so obsessed with them? I don’t think so!
It’s all thanks to them that we not only got some of the most satisfying KanColle doujinshi ever, and we also got to drool over them every week, thanks to the KanColle anime that aired a couple of years ago.
Seeing Kaga lose her cool around Akagi and Akagi simply being the adorable glutton that she is… I’m asking you, who on Earth would not fall head over heels in love with them?!
Though, the most influencing factor for me to start loving this pairing so much was definitely not the anime, but one of the few Akagi x Kaga artists, Nekomura.

1. Pharah x Mercy (Overwatch)Yes, I know. When I fall in love with a pairing, my love goes very deeply, and this choice proves it all the more.
Ever since I started playing the game, these two have been my number one pairing, despite the fact that Overwatch surely offers more than just a few possible yuri ones. However, seeing how the community so eagerly writes fanfiction about them, draws the oh-so-lovely fanart, and comes up with hilarious and cute short strips, I can’t help but fall in love with them over and over again.
And now, imagine me playing Overwatch, always going a little nuts when I see Pharmercy, either on my own or the enemy team. It’s seriously a sight to be seen, especially when I’m part of the duo, either focusing all of my attention on protecting the precious Swiss doctor, or on healing and boosting the beloved captain, while playing as Mercy. Add a few suggestive in-game voice lines, and the combined Pharmercy sprays that I put wherever I can, and you can be sure that I either annoy everyone on the team or, in some rare cases, get them to participate in my endless shipping.
In conclusion, I find it quite special to actually be able to—in a way—actively take part in the shipping like that, and for as long as I will continue to play this game, I think my love for them won’t lose its strength any time soon~

Madoka x Homura is, and always will be, my favorite ship of all time, the sheer amount of dedication that Homura has to keeping Madoka safe and happy warms my heart to no end, and I honestly can’t think of a ship that I support more than this one. This is somewhat unrelated, but I actually didn’t like Love Live all that much, even compared to similar anime (Like K-on and Hibike), and I was wondering why it has so much hype around it; there is a massive amount of Love Live fans, and I just don’t get what’s so good about it, I didn’t like the characters very much, the plot was mediocre at best, the actual onstage musical scenes weren’t bad, but were still not as satisfying as other examples, and finally, I just didn’t see anything special or worthy of praise even when I tried to forget everything else and just focus on the yuri subtext, the amount of shipping that people do in relation to this show makes me think that I missed a massive amount of yuri-oriented scenes, could someone tell me why the anime deserves the praise that it gets from so many people? Because as it stands, Love Live doesn’t even make it into my top 150 anime, and I’ve only watched 230. I understand that everyone has different opinions on what is and isn’t a good anime, but opinions exist to be either praised or scrutinized. On to something a bit less controversial, do you think that this list will change again after this season? There are quite a few ships floating about at the moment, some of which work very well, in my humble opinion.

Hm, in case of Love Life it’s kinda hard. I can see what you mean, though I think Love Live is mostly popular in Japan, and probably mostly among men for certain reasons that I think I don’t have to name.
Now add the fact that those who like this high school idol concept start drawing stuff for the show, depending on how many hop on the hype train, it can get pretty popular in basically no time.

I guess I’ll make my own Top 10 favorite Yuri Paring’s, I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time!
#10: Chikane x Himeko (Kannozuki No Miko)
I find Kannozuki No Miko kind of overrated, I didn’t really care for the Het scenes but I still find these two to be adorable together. That confession in the last episode really sold the anime for me though, If it weren’t for that scene these two really wouldn’t be here.
#9: Aaya x Kii-chan (Kuttsukiboshi)
Now I know this series isn’t very very well known by the Yuri community or very popular. (Hell, even some people said that they hated this series) but Kuttsukiboshi is my guilty pleasure. The best part about these two is that all their doujin’s are made by the creator of the original OVA’s. Meaning that they’re cannon. I just find the romance between these two so cute, I love it!
#8: Shizuma x Nagisa (Strawberry Panic)
The ending of Strawberry Panic really put me into a good mood. The way the relationship between these two evolve’s is amazing, I love the character development between these two & how their relationship blossom’s. Truly a romance to behold.
#7: Yukino x Setsuko (Octave)
Setsuko & Yukino really go well together, What I really love about these two is the fact that they have probably the most realistic relationship is Yuri manga history. Out of all the Yuri manga’s I’ve read, Octave is the manga I want to be a adapted. Octave is amazing for anyone looking to get started with Yuri. And the relationship Between Setsuko & Yukino is a perfect example of how Yuri should be.
#6: Papika x Cocona (Flip Flappers)
Paprika the adventurous, happy, go lucky lesbian & her beloved Shy, Nervous, but strong-willed girlfriend Cocona. It’s absolutely adorable how devoted Papika is to Cocona & how Cocona realizes her feeling’s for her lovely Papika. The love confession pretty much sold me on these two.
#5: Mew x Donut (Lily Love)
Lily Love is a Yuri gem that need’s to be seen by everyone. I know that it wasn’t made in Japan so it technically can’t get an anime but it’s still nice to dream isn’t it? The steadily growing relationship between Mew & Donut is simply magical, I simply can’t get enough. From the cute little interactions between them to that steamy sex scene in Chapter 29, These two are so damn adorable together.
#4: Fine x Izetta (Izetta: The Last Witch)
I agree with pretty much everything you’ve said about these two, Izetta: The Last Witch has to be the best Yuri anime of 2016. I been obsessing over these two for a while now. I just love the length’s Izetta will go to make her Queen happy & the other way around. Such a wonderful couple these two are.
#3: Kyouko x Sayaka (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
The tragic romance of these two is truly heart-breaking, I pretty much fell into tears when I witnessed Episode 9. These two are Number 3 because they manage to bring to tears in a span of 5 Episode’s, Let me repeat that 5…Episode’s. Madoka Magica is one of the greatest Yuri series ever made and Kyouko & Sayaka’s Tragic love story is a true example of that. How Kyouko falls for Sayaka is try’s her best to rescue her but after realizing she can’t, she kills Sayaka along with herself. A tragedy sadder the Romeo & Juliet
#2 Haruka x Yuu (Sakura Trick)
Sakura Trick is the first Yuri anime that I ever watched, And It’s pairing Haruka x Yuu used to be my all time favorite Yuri couple. It’s because of these two I now have an addiction to Yuri, And an addiction to these two lovebirds. I love how their kisses get more & more intense and the “Special Comic 01” suggests that they might take things to the next level, Or at least I hope. Long Story Short, It’s going to be very hard to find a series that top’s this manga.

Good list, but I’d still give honourable mentions to the ones you bumped. Shoukaku/Zuikaku is a really underrated and cute couple, even as sister ships.
Also, aside from not punting Chimeko up a few, you don’t add any recommended fanfics? Shame lol. Maybe any of DezoPen’s works, or Aloneness’ “Capturing a Heart” would do the trick.

I just finished watching all of two seasons Sekirei. I really liked the couple Uzume x Chiho. The only pity is that Uzume died. Yet now I hope for a third season and that there they will find a way to resurrect Uzume. Perhaps there Chiho itself will play a very important role.

Wow! I hadn’t heard of most of these characters! It’s made me think I’ve just been super unfortunate in that most of the yuri pairings I’ve seen are super rape-y, like, one of the women forces themselves either emotionally or physically (or both) on the other. It’d be nice to see more healthy gay relationships…

What are your thoughts on Vivio and Einhard?
I mean it’s obvious that in the anime Vivio doesn’t think about romance much, if at all, and she simply loves all her friends … but there were several situations where I thought Einhardt was one second away from turning green completely if x or y got any more friendly with Vivio.
After all the on-the-nose stuff regarding their pasts they seemed like the fated couple if there ever was one but then that aspect and the pairing got totally ignored as if they were trying to save that for another installment.
Or was I just seing things? My yuri-goggles can be strong sometimes.
