What to Look Forward to in 2019

After such an awesome year where yuri fans were able to witness major yuri anime adaptations from the likes of Citrus, Bloom Into You, and even Asagao to Kase-san., it’s time to look into the future and see what 2019 has in store for us.

Admittedly, 2018 spoiled us big time, probably not so much with a lot of major visual novel releases, but definitely when it comes to anime. I guess there’s just no way the new year can get anywhere close to that. Still, even now, we already know of quite a few anime releases that we should get excited for in 2019!

magia record mahou shoujo madoka magica gaiden

One thing that got me really hyped was the announcement of another Madoka★Magica season, namely Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica Gaiden. We don’t know much about this one yet, but oh man, I’m ready for some more of that! Speaking of new seasons, we’ll also get another Toaru Kagaku no Railgun one, as well as more Princess Principal and more Strike Witches, too! And even for those of us who are looking out for some new series, there’s Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita! and (finally) Manaria Friends to look forward to. Since that last one is a spin-off, it’s technically not really a new anime, but I guess it has new characters, so bear with me. 😛

And while we’re on the topic of anime that got delayed, I guess what a lot of us are still waiting for is the second season of Kantai Collection. As I found out, however, there might never even have been an official announcement for the second season, but I sure hope that this will still happen at some point next year! We just need more Kantai Collection and we need it fast!

If that’s a little too much to keep track of, don’t worry. We’ll cover all of these, as always, in our Yuri Anime 2019 post that will we released pretty soon~

Moving on, the visual novel department looks promising as well. It feels like there are not as many releases already planned for 2019, but there’s two among the ones we already know about that I’m especially excited about.

bloom yuri visual novel

The first one being Bloom by Razzart Visual. I already love what Razzart has brought to us in the past. Titles like Love Ribbon and Starlight Vega are still among my favorite visual novels of all-time. Now seeing something new approaching, with a description that is literally right up my alley and a cover art like that, I’m on board!

If you wanna check this one out, you can find out more on the official website, which you can find right here.

Next up, we have Heart of the Woods by Elan Studios, a stunning-looking fantasy yuri visual novel that I just can’t wait to get my hands on!

There’s actually already a free demo available on Steam, so if you wanna try it, click right here or visit the official website for more information on this game.

kotonoha amrilato the expression amrilato yuri visual novel

Another yuri visual novel to look out for is Kotonoha Amrilato, which has already been announced to be coming our way, thanks to MangaGamer.

Back in August, MangaGamer tweeted that the title was already fully translated and edited, so it’s safe to assume that we’ll be playing this one before the end of 2019 as well~

Lastly, while I can’t predict upcoming manga, I do have a feeling that Bloom Into You might end in 2019. Well, we already have 7 volumes, and maybe it’s about time to wrap it all up. Hopefully, though, we can see a second anime season of this one as well, as both the manga and the anime adaption are simply delightful~

In the manhwa department, however, I can see that we’ll get many, many more titles this year as well. I feel like the amount of new manhwa has been increasing a lot—especially during the past two years—and I sure as hell hope that this won’t stop anytime soon!

Now all that’s left to say is: What are you guys excited about in 2019? Is there anything in particular that you just can’t wait to see already?

  1. I’m also excited for the Magia Record anime. I heard it’s adaptation of a game spin-off of Madoka, so there might be folk out there who could potentially spoil the story. That is of course, if the anime follows the plot to a T.

  2. Hi Lena,

I’ve been browsing through this blog for a couple of years now but this is my first comment!

I was wondering if you could please help me remember the name of a manga? I think I heard about it from one of your posts but I can’t seem to find it. I remember it was about a couple and one of them liked music but had quit (I don’t remember if she was a singer or played an instrument) and then the girl she was flirting with got her a necklace that was music inspired which cause the other girl to become upset. That’s where I stopped reading, does this manga ring any bells? I would be very happy to find out what the name of it is!

    Thank you!!

    • Hi there and nice to see you commenting too now 😉

This sounds a little like Octave, but the necklace thing doesn’t ring a bell. Maybe I’m just forgetful though.
Try Octave though, I have a feeling this might be it.
If not that, than maybe After Hours.
Hope one of them is what you’re looking for!

  3. Man when it comes to Manhwa, there are some amazing titles that I would LOVE to see animated.
White Angels With No Wings, It Would Be Great If You Didn’t Exist, Her Pet. So much drama in them and yanderes.

  4. Kirara Magazine just said they will be having big Announcements.
So hopefully that means Swap x Swap anime announcement.

There’s also the Yuru Yuri 10th anniversary OVA that might release next year too with that recent Kickstarter thing.

Personally I’m with Yuru Camp S2, and Is the Order a Rabbit S3.
Slightly torn because Princess Principal S2 will be movies instead, which means they will take longer to get.

  5. Manaria Friends and Slife of Life Strike Witches are what I am looking forward to at the beginning of 2019. Manaria Friends looks so promising with yuri too since that possible kiss we saw in the preview! 😀 I just hope 2019 throws us some epic curve ball surprises as the year goes on. The past few years have been so good to us with yuri the gravy train just has to keep going!

      • All of that and more! 😀 I know it is a one in a billion chance at this point but I still hold out hope for more Chimeko to be made! 😛

  6. Seeing as the decade is on its way out (technically just one more year), it got me thinking. Maybe the site could start doing decades in review for yuri anime. Those pieces could cover significant events that happened on the yuri anime and maybe manga and VN front. Perhaps a flagship anime series could be name for each year or each major year in that decade and a general overview of the decade. Maybe start with the 90s and 2000s and then cover the 2010s at the end of this year. I can already see this decade has no shortage of yuri releases and events to cover in a review of the decade.

    • That is a great idea!
Okay, get ready for the end of 2019. I think this might turn out to be a HUUUUUGE post, but I’m already excited to put that together!

  7. I personally have my eye on Endro, a fantasy-centric Namori anime coming out soonish. Release the Spyce was a bit disappointing, but I have higher hopes for this one based on what we know.

I’m also especially hyped for Manaria Friends since I loved the main Shingeki no Bahamut anime seasons, fingers crossed for more Favaro even though the cast is supposed to be different. Tbh Shingeki no Bahamut has always had a bit of subtext on the yuri side of things, mostly regarding the gods’ faction, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Manaria Friends went a bit further.

    • Favaroooooooo~
Sorry, I just have to scream the name like we always heard in the show. It makes me remember how much I loved this one. I’m actually hoping to see the old cast again too, but I have a feeling we won’t or if we do, only for a second.

  8. I really loved KS, so I’m looking forward to Kindred Spirits on the Roof ~ Full Chorus, which is coming out imminently on January 17th, according to mangagamer!

Also, I’ve been a reader for a while, but this is my first comment here, hi 🙂
