Yuri News Update: February 2020

Another new month has begun, so that means it’s time for yet another Yuri News Update.

magical girl lyrical nanoha detonation

It seems like it was only yesterday that Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Reflection and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Detonation were released in Japanese theaters, but here we are talking about a new project in the franchise. It’s not yet known what that exactly means, but here’s the tweet that announced it.

I thought the movies were alright, but I’m hoping this all leads to another anime season, and preferably one where Nanoha and Fate are all grown-up. I’m probably not alone in thinking that, but only time will tell if that turns out to be the case. Until then, let’s let our minds roam and imagine all the awesome NanoFate content that could hopefully be headed our way~

shoujo kageki revue starlight compilation film

Moving on, the compilation film of Shoujo☆Kageki Revue Starlight has an official release date. May 29th is when the anime film will hit Japanese theaters, and to mark the occasion, the film’s trailer has been released. Take a look~

It’s not yet known when the brand-new Revue Starlight film will be released, yet this compilation film should be a nice little diversion, especially for those people who have yet to actually watch the TV anime (shame on those people :P).

Next up, Love Live! fans once again have something to get excited about. In addition to the new TV anime that was announced back in December (that we totally forgot to report :D), another totally separate TV anime was recently announced, but since we didn’t report it in December, let’s take a second to recap the events of the last couple of months.

Back in mid-December, Love Live! Nijigasaki Academy’s School Idol Appreciation Club (just rolls off the tongue, huh?) was announced as the next entry in the franchise, and an all-new visual for the forthcoming season was released (shown below). Some details of the staff were also announced, with Sunrise once again being the studio in charge, and at least a couple of staff members from Mitsuboshi Colors working on this new season.

At this point, this franchise is unstoppable, as they can just introduce a brand-new group of girls and fans will eat it up. Yet another example of that is that even though Nijigasaki Academy has yet to even begin airing, another season of Love Live was announced.

hello!!! love live!

Thanks to the tag line, let’s just go ahead and call this other season Hello!!! Love Live!, and open casting calls will determine one of the main cast members of the group. Love Live! isn’t anywhere close to an actual yuri anime, but the new seasons never cease to give us new pairings to ship, so with two new seasons on the way, I think it’s safe to say that there’ll be many new idols to ship with one another~

And finally, Studio Élan is known for yuri visual novels Heart of the Woods, Highway Blossoms, and the upcoming Lock & Key, but it looks like there’ll be another new addition to their growing stable of yuri VNs. They recently began posting video teasers for this new VN, and you can check them out below.

I’m liking the interstellar vibe that this VN seems to be going for, but until we can get more information about this one, we’ll just have to be content with these teasers. Whenever we do get more info about this, you can bet that we’ll pass that along to you guys as well~

  1. Anything Nanoha is fine by me! 😀
Instead of skipping ahead I would like to see them grow up a bit more. We haven’t gotten a lot of NanoFate development in the movies and watching their relationship progress would be wonderful.
Am kind of hoping they do the part about Nanoha’s near fatal fight and subsequent rehabilitation (apparently this happened in the manga). I think it was alluded to in StrikerS? It would fit in just right – post Detonation and pre StrikerS.

As for the new LL, am not sure what to expect. The characters in SIF have a different feel to them, so no copy&paste like they did with Sunshine. I don’t find myself particularly drawn to them, and the songs they have released so far didn’t really wow me.
Still, anime is always a different animal, so will have to wait and see.

    PS
    Another one:
“I’m probably not along in thinking that”
    along – > alone

    • Given how little Nanofate the two recent movies gave us, all our wishful thinking will probably just result in new main characters getting introduced, like Amitie and Kyrie… 😛

Truth be told, I haven’t seen any Love Live! anime since the second season, but even if neither of us are super enthused about it, I’m sure it’s still going to sell tons of copies and tickets and merch. Death, taxes, and Love Live!… 😀

And thanks for the heads up~

  3. The Revue Starlight movie is going to be through Nanas perspective? I thought I heard that somewhere. As for the new Nanoha series I hope they show Nanoha, Fate, and Vivio interact more like the cute family that they are.

    • I think someone mentioned that in one of the comments in one of these posts, but I have no idea if it’s true or not. We’re just gonna have to wait and see how it goes.

That would be nice. Even though most of the classic characters played a role in the two movies, I didn’t really like how the focus shifted away from Nanofate and onto the new girls. Hopefully whatever this new project is will be centered around Nanoha and Fate again~
