Is the year already a quarter of the way over? It feels like it’s just begun, but here we are in April, bringing you another Yuri News Update. As is usually the case, if we missed anything important, feel free to mention it down in the comments~
One of the more intriguing anime of the spring season for me is Blue Reflection Ray, even though I’d never even heard of the game until last month. That visual above should explain why I’m interested in this, and now we have not one, but TWO PVs for this anime. Enjoy~
Based on the art and animation, I’m not sure if I’m feeling this or not. The show kicks off this week, so instead of wasting time thinking about it, I’ll just watch it and figure it out as I go. Expect to hear about this show in our First Impressions post (hopefully) next week.
Going from a show I might like from the spring season to a show I’m sure to like from the summer season, here’s a PV for the second season of My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!.
The first season was a ton of fun, and with everyone—male and female—interested in Kat to some degree, it also managed to scratch that yuri itch, so there wasn’t a lot to complain about. July seems like a ways off, but I’m fairly confident the wait for this anime will be worth it. I’m firmly on Team Mary, so I’d love to see her get a lot closer to Kat, but the way season one ended, I wouldn’t mind if Sophia or Maria were the ones instigating the yuri. Better yet, how about all of them! 😀
Time flies, doesn’t it? It’s already been 10 years since Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica graced us with its presence and shook up the entire industry, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the series is getting a 10th anniversary event on April 25th.
As much as I’d love to hear news about the inevitable next installment in the main series, I’m not getting my hopes up too high for that. Instead, I’m thinking maybe we’ll finally get more info about the second season of Magia Record. It’s been over a year since we got confirmation of another season, so that seems a lot more likely. Whatever gets unveiled, we’ll be sure to mention it in next month’s Yuri News Update, so stay tuned~
After all of these years, the Kiniro Mosaic franchise is still going strong, with the latest evidence being this commercial for Kiniro Mosaic: Thank You!!, which is set to debut in Japan on August 20th.
I think no matter what, this series will always be really enjoyable to me, and I don’t expect this movie to change that. Thank You!! is the series’ second movie in a row, but I really miss watching an entire season of KinMoza. Less than an hour just isn’t enough time to soak in all of the fun and cuteness this franchise has to offer, so while I’ll definitely be watching this at some point, I’m crossing my fingers for another proper anime season.
And now, it’s chibi time! These next two stories are similar, so I’ll just lump them into one.
Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru Churutto! will be the first one out of the gate, and it’s set to premiere on April 9th. Before the third season of YuYuYu hits, Churruto! should probably be a fun, little time for longtime fans, and the same thing can be said about the other mini anime coming our way in the coming months.
Hot on the heels of YuYuYu Churruto! will be Assault Lily: Fruits, Assault Lily: Bouquet‘s entry in the chibi anime wars. July is when this will start being available to watch, and out of the two, this is the one I’m looking forward to the most, and not only because I haven’t been keeping up with the YuYuYu franchise.
Bouquet had a lot of yuri love to give, so I think it’s a safe assumption that the mini anime will be the just as playful and yuri-friendly as the main series. So far, 2021 hasn’t had as many yuri-ish anime as we’d like, but hopefully these two shows can contribute to the cause a bit. Either way, they should be pretty cute, so at least there’s that.
Lastly, Ride or Die, the live-action movie adaptation of the Gunjo yuri manga, has a trailer, just in time before its April 15th worldwide Netflix premiere. Let’s take a look~
As unsettling as the subject matter is, the trailer actually makes this movie look pretty promising. I mean, I probably won’t be in a rush to watch it (just because I don’t want to see the abuse), but I imagine plenty of people are counting down the days until this becomes available to stream. Hope you folks like it~
