Yuri News Update: April 2021

yuri news update april 2021

Is the year already a quarter of the way over? It feels like it’s just begun, but here we are in April, bringing you another Yuri News Update. As is usually the case, if we missed anything important, feel free to mention it down in the comments~

blue reflection ray anime

One of the more intriguing anime of the spring season for me is Blue Reflection Ray, even though I’d never even heard of the game until last month. That visual above should explain why I’m interested in this, and now we have not one, but TWO PVs for this anime. Enjoy~

Based on the art and animation, I’m not sure if I’m feeling this or not. The show kicks off this week, so instead of wasting time thinking about it, I’ll just watch it and figure it out as I go. Expect to hear about this show in our First Impressions post (hopefully) next week.

Yuri News Update: February 2021

yuri news update february 2021

I may have forgotten to post this last week, but that just means there are even more things to cover. As always, if we missed something important, feel free to mention it down in the comments~

kobayashi-san chi no dragon maid s

First up, my current pick for the most anticipated yuri-ish anime of 2021. After a couple of quiet years, we finally know when the second season of Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon will premiere. July is when the fun begins, so mark your calendars, people.

There were a lot of people worried about Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S after the KyoAni arson incident, but like the rest of the studio, it’s risen from the ashes and will continue on. If you haven’t seen the first season, you’re missing out on one of the most ridiculous and entertaining yuri-ish anime we’ve had in some time, but there’s still time to catch up, so what are you waiting for?! 😛

2020 Fall Anime Season: Final Thoughts

2020 fall anime season final thoughts

It’s that time of the year again, so enjoy our Final Thoughts of the fall anime season that just came to an end. Hope you all have a happy and safe New Year~

Adachi to Shimamura
Length: 12 Episodes | Genre: Romance, School, Slice of Life, Yuri

adachi to shimamura yuri anime

For the first time in quite a while, this season gave actual yuri anime to get excited about, but I had some mixed feelings about the yuri headliner of the season. I should mention that I haven’t read the Adachi to Shimamura light novels or manga, so this assessment is solely about the anime. Before the season began, I expected this anime to be a nice middle ground between Kase-san. and Bloom Into You, yet after finishing the season, I was left feeling unfulfilled and like AdaShima lacked the magic of both of those series.

2020 Fall Anime Season: First Impressions

2020 fall anime season

It’s that time of the year again, so enjoy our First Impressions of the 2020 fall anime season that just started~

Adachi to Shimamura
Studio: Tezuka Productions • Genre: Romance, School, Slice of Life, Yuri

adachi to shimamura anime
At last, we finally have another pure yuri anime to watch. I need to mention that I’ve never read the light novels, so this is all coming from someone who’s brand-new to the series. With that out of the way, wasn’t this a good first episode? Things are already really cute, despite Adachi and Shimamura being just friends, though you can sense the romance starting to blossom. I’m actually glad that they aren’t already together, since the lead-up to that is almost always fun to watch. I really enjoyed the narration from Shimamura, since it gave me, an AdaShima noob, valuable insight into her thoughts.

Both Adachi and Shimamura already seem really likable, and the same can be said about the chemistry between Hino and Nagafuji. I’m looking forward to seeing Adachi become a regular member of the group, as well as seeeing more of that little astronaut character. Remembering back two or three years ago when we did have pure yuri anime, I wasn’t a huge fan of those shows that had a lot of melodrama, like Netsuzou TRap or even Citrus. Asagao to Kase-san. was much more my style, and AdaShima feels like it’s going to be a lot closer to that than the other two, so I’m thrilled about that.

This show had more fanservice than I was expecting, even though we’re only talking about legs and thighs. It was nice to see that this anime has good production values, and even though the story is likely just going to be a rather simple and straightforward romance, the first episode was already really effective at setting the mood. To me, episode one was already more enjoyable than the entirety of Flag Time, and I can imagine those thoughts will only be strengthened once the romance really picks up. The wait for yuri anime has been tough, but we might have a really good one on our hands, so tell your friends and tell your neighbors that they really need to be watching this~

Yuri News Update: July 2020

Summer is officially here, and with it comes another Yuri News Update. As has been the case lately, there’s a lot to get to, and as always, if we missed something important, feel free to mention it in the comments~

my next life as a villainess season two

It makes sense to start this Yuri News Update with some good news. From what I hear, perhaps this spring season’s most pleasant surprise has been My Next Life as a Villainess, which you guys have recommended to me on more than one occasion, so it’s great that a second season was announced at the end of this season’s final episode. 2021 is when you can expect the new season to arrive, so next year is already starting to take shape quite nicely.

I actually haven’t started watching the first season yet, but since our Spring Final Thoughts post is planned for next week, I better hurry the hell up! *rushes to finish writing this post*
