Let’s Talk About Gacha Games & Their Yuri Potential

Well, it’s been a while again, huh? Just take a guess where I’ve been or what I’ve been doing all this time. Correct, I pretty much lost my myself (and my money) in gacha games. Two specific ones to be more precise.

But as always, let’s organize this post a bit and start with some basic information. Like what are gacha games?

Some of you might not know what it is, even though you might have heard about some titles that fall into this category. Let’s take Kantai Collection from back in the day, for example, or Azur Lane. Then there’s Fate/Grand Order, Arknights and as of recently, Genshin Impact. All vastly different games you might say, but all of them involve some special lottery kind of feature where you can spend in-game currencies in order to receive some mostly random item or character. While these games are usually free, you can spend money to get more of these in-game currencies, which in return will enable you to get more “pulls” or draws from the lottery system.

Yuri Anime 2020

yuri anime 2020

Just like our Yuri Anime 2013, Yuri Anime 2014, Yuri Anime 2015, Yuri Anime 2016, Yuri Anime 2017, Yuri Anime 2018, and Yuri Anime 2019 lists, this one will also feature all the yuri-ish shows that will air in 2020. Since it’s not even 2020 yet, this list is still in progress and will be updated whenever there are new shows to add. If you feel like we missed something, feel free to name your additions~

And for some anime that SEEM to have yuri potential, we might include those until our hopes are dashed in the worst way possible. 😛

My Top 10 Yuri Anime [Updated]

Spoiler Warning!

Just as I updated my Top 10 Favorite Yuri Characters, I’ll continue with this one that I originally posted many, many years ago.

In this case as well, quite a few things changed, and we have some newcomers as well. Please enjoy, and tell us about your Top 10 in the comments as well~

cross ange anime
10. Cross Ange: Tenshi to Ryuu no Rondo

Admittedly, Cross Ange didn’t end the way we all wanted it to. Hilda didn’t get her much deserved girlfriend, and Ange ended up with Tusk, a male character. In terms of yuri, this couldn’t have gone any more wrong. Though, the yuri we got through the rest of the show probably made up for the horrible outcome, if only a little.

So, basically, the whole show involves some steamy yuri sex scenes, some kisses, and even some true romance, despite the fact that Cross Ange often didn’t depict the yuri taking place as something happening out of the characters’ love for one another. In the end, there were still enough yuri characters left, and if we now add the fact that the whole plot of this show, as well as pretty much all of the important characters, were pretty damn awesome, then this makes for a damn great anime, if you ask me.

Yuri News Update: January 2019

yuri news update january 2019

It may be a new year, but there’s still a lot of yuri news, and in case you haven’t heard apparently 2019 is the 100th anniversary of yuri, as Nobuko Yoshiya’s Yaneura no Nishojo was first published all the way back in 1919!

It’s pretty crazy to think of how far this genre has come, but even coming off one of the best years in yuri history, things can still get better, so raise your glass to Ms. Yoshiya, the real OG of our favorite genre~

What to Look Forward to in 2019

After such an awesome year where yuri fans were able to witness major yuri anime adaptations from the likes of Citrus, Bloom Into You, and even Asagao to Kase-san., it’s time to look into the future and see what 2019 has in store for us.

Admittedly, 2018 spoiled us big time, probably not so much with a lot of major visual novel releases, but definitely when it comes to anime. I guess there’s just no way the new year can get anywhere close to that. Still, even now, we already know of quite a few anime releases that we should get excited for in 2019!

Let’s Talk About the Various Roles Food Plays in Yuri [Guest Post by shade]

As suggested in our post about “interactive” blogposts, this specific topic showed up as well. So as the second topic in this new post category, we’re glad to have shade shine some light of wisdom on this interesting topic~

kindred spirits on the roof

So let’s talk about the various roles food plays in yuri. The first thing you probably think of are the standard clichés like making a bento for senpai, or some porridge for a beloved sick one, and, of course, the staple that is Valentine’s Day. But I think when done in a yuri setting, even these formulaic scenes often get a bit more depth and sparkle because they strive to achieve something more than being that of an overused trope.

Movie Review: Gekijo-ban Kantai Collection

kancolle movie

Year: 2016
Genre: Action, Drama, Military
Studio: Diomedea

The movie is set after some of the events of the anime, when Kisaragi was destroyed and sunk after a battle with the Abyssal fleet. Having watched that far in the anime is therefore mandatory in order to understand the events of the movie.

It all starts out with yet another battle with the enemy fleet that ends with the ship girls finding and retreating the previously sunk Kisaragi. The celebrations of this find don’t last long, though, as Kisaragi seemingly suffers from amnesia, as well as some even worse repercussions that lead to finding out the dark truth about all ship girls…
