Our Wishes for 2018

After having talked about the highlights as well as all the things that were already announced that we can look forward to in 2018, why not talk about our wishes for this year as well?

So far, we can definitely not complain about the amount of things we already know will hit us this year. However, as greedy as it might sound, there’s always more things the community might want, so today, let’s focus on all the things that might or might not follow or happen as 2018 drags along.

citrus yuri animeFirst up, as the Citrus anime is basically right around the corner, especially after the disappointment of last year’s anime adaptation of Netsuzou TRap, what we need right now is a yuri anime that does its job right. One that might finally attract more viewers, actually sells a decent amount of copies, and simply gains enough attention, in a positive way, if I might add.

Yuri Anime 2018

yuri anime 2018

Just like our Yuri Anime 2013, Yuri Anime 2014, Yuri Anime 2015, Yuri Anime 2016, and Yuri Anime 2017 lists, this one will also feature all the yuri shows that will air in 2018. Since it’s not even 2018 yet, this list is still in progress and will be updated whenever there are new shows to add. If you feel like we missed something, feel free to name your additions~

Our Personal Highlights of 2017 and Things to Look Forward to in 2018

Let’s start with the highlights of 2017.

The year has admittedly been good, but definitely not the greatest when it comes to yuri anime and manga, at least in my opinion. Focusing on anime, we got some fair amount of shows with yuri subtext, like Kakegurui and the second seasons of New Game! and Love Live! Sunshine!!.

kobayashi-san chi no maid dragonThough, the great highlights were rather shows like Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon, which simply surprised us with the amount of yuri—especially for a show by KyoAni—that seriously blurred the lines between only subtext and straight up yuri content. No one was really expecting that, which definitely makes this one of the greatest highlights of 2017 for me.

Interactive Post – How Realistically Does The Yuri Genre Portray Lesbians?

So, as decided by you guys, we ended up with three possible topics:

polldaddy poll results

And as you can already tell from the title, we decided to go with the winner of the poll (and possibly the hardest to actually talk about).

Seeing as I’m a self-proclaimed master in the arts of Yuri, I think we have that part covered up pretty well. I also have the lesbian part down, though I fear that thanks to my still too few experiences (meaning that I’ve only been with one girl so far), I thought it would be best to get some help in that department. So I brought in NotATsun, a professional lesbian (:P), who will hopefully shine some light of wisdom on all the topics that I might simply not have the needed experience in.

We’ll divide this post in three parts:

  • Big Topics – How are lesbians usually depicted in yuri media?
  • Small Topics – Recurring yuri themes
  • What works do we think depict lesbians the most realistically?
