As suggested in our post about “interactive” blogposts, this specific topic showed up as well. So as the second topic in this new post category, we’re glad to have shade shine some light of wisdom on this interesting topic~
So let’s talk about the various roles food plays in yuri. The first thing you probably think of are the standard clichés like making a bento for senpai, or some porridge for a beloved sick one, and, of course, the staple that is Valentine’s Day. But I think when done in a yuri setting, even these formulaic scenes often get a bit more depth and sparkle because they strive to achieve something more than being that of an overused trope.
Food Porn: The Anime. That may not be the actual title, but for all intents and purposes, that’s exactly what the show is. Koufuku Graffiti explores the thought that sharing meals with loved ones brings people closer together and makes great tasting food taste even better. This sounds like a winning recipe, but the creators skimped on one key ingredient… the yuri.
Just like my Yuri Anime of 2014 list, and the new Yuri Anime 2016 list, this one will also feature all the yuri shows that will air this year. Since it’s only the beginning of 2015, this list is still in progress and will be updated whenever there are new shows to add. If you feel like I missed something, or if you want to add a yuri rating to a show that’s finished airing, feel free to name your additions.
It seems as if I don’t have as much time as used to have. So right now, I was only able to start watching 5 shows.
My selection might look meager, but here you have my thoughts anyway~
Let’s start with Yuri Kuma Arashi.
As said in my First Impression post about this anime, I was totally overwhelmed by what was happening during the first episode. I didn’t get much, if anything at all, but I slowly managed to get a good understanding of the whole thing, or that’s what I think.
While I thought it wasn’t making any sense at first, I now believe that this is one of the greatest and most interesting shows of the past year.
Despite how some people just don’t want to understand and even think about the story for a little longer than just a few seconds, I find great joy in reading up on all the theories people come up with. It is seriously a great experience and think that this sole anime might really change the genre.
I know I’m using some big words here and it’s only been 3 episodes, but I really hope that this show will walk further into the right direction and delivers something incredible in the end.
