Yuri News Update: October 2019

It’s another jam-packed month of stuff to cover, so let’s get started.

princess principal crown handler

Finally, we have some concrete information about the first of the six-movie sequels to Princess Principal. The first film is titled Princess Principal: Crown Handler, and you can check out the short teaser below~

This first film has unfortunately been delayed to April, but regardless, I’m still very hyped about this. What I’m a little less hyped about is having to adjust to a new voice actress for Ange, seeing as the original voice actress, Ayaka Imamura, had to retire last year due to health issues. But seeing as her replacement, Aoi Koga, voiced Kaguya in the awesome Kaguya-sama: Love is War, this is really a non-issue to me.

However, what could be an issue is the change in scriptwriters as well as no mention of one of the studios responsible for the first season’s production, Studio 3Hz. But I think it’s still too early to push the panic button, and Yuki Kajiura is still involved, so I still have high hopes for this series.

Things I’m looking forward to in 2014

Just a few more days and it’s 2014 already. For some reason this year passed by pretty fast, at least for me, but that’s absolutely no bad thing since I just can’t wait for 2014.

So in this entry I’m going to name the things I’m waiting for the most. These will most likely be anime, but also movies, OVAs, manga and Visual Novels.
Please note that many of the anime I’m going to name are already announced, but in most cases there is no information about their release date out yet. That’s why I’m going to divide this entry into 3 parts to make the list a little clearer.

Stuff that will be released in 2014:
Sakura Trick Anime
Let’s start with the one thing many of you are probably anticipating the most, Sakura Trick. The first episode will air on 9th January, which is just a few weeks from now on and I can barely contain my excitement for this show. A pure yuri anime with (seemingly) various different couples and a lot of cute kisses? Sounds great!
I really hope that this show will be successful, so that everyone can see that the world needs more yuri!
If you haven’t done so already, here’s a short preview for you to watch:

My Personal Highlights of 2013

Since it’s the end of the year already, I thought it would be a good idea to just list my personal highlights of 2013 and kind of draw a final conclusion to see how “successful” this year has been for us yuri fans.

So first of all, let’s start with anime.
I think everyone will agree with me when I say that 2013 has been the year of Shingeki no Kyojin.
I have to be honest and tell you that I’m usually neither up to date with seasonal anime releases, nor do I pay attention to what shows are the most popular.
However, there was one anime this year that I could not miss simply because of its huge fandom, and I’m really happy I actually did take the time to see why everyone was going crazy about it.
Shingeki no Kyojin was without a doubt the most anticipated as well as successful anime of 2013 and I have to agree, it’s a fantastic show with a freaking awesome story. It is also one of the only (non-yuri) manga I’ve read in a long time and it’s even one of my favorites right now, which is so rare since I usually only read yuri stuff.

Well, other than the manga and anime, especially the yuri pairing YumiKuri (Ymir x Christa) has gained a lot of popularity this year. There are already tons of doujinshi, fanfics and even short animated clips of them out. And since I’m up to date with the manga, I can safely assume that the fandom won’t just stop here, but rather grow even bigger.
But since I don’t want to spoil you guys, let’s just end it here and come to another highlight that happened at the end of the year, not too long ago.
The news of the 3rd Madoka Magica movie had been around for a while and in October the movie was finally released in Japan, while some other countries had to wait until December to finally watch it.

Anime Review: Love Lab

Spoiler Warning

Author: Ruri Miyahara
Genre: Comedy, School Life, Slice of Life
Story 8/10 and Characters 9/10:
Natsuo Maki, a proper, intelligent and polite high school girl who also takes the position of the student council president, is admired and loved by all the students. However she’s not always her calm and collected self and exactly in a moment in which she lets her actual self show, she meets Riko, a rather boyish and forward girl, who is mostly referred to as “The Wild One”. During this unfortunate meeting, Riko walks in on Maki kissing Huggy (her life-size pillow), trying to hone her kissing skills. The situation quickly escalates, ending with Riko lying about her (nonexistent) former love experiences, which then leads to her being persuaded into becoming Maki’s “love teacher”. And thus start the hilarious love lessons in the student council room.
When I started watching this anime, I didn’t really expect much of it. I just thought that this would be yet another Slice of Life in which cute girls do cute stuff (nothing’s wrong with that by the way). However what I finally got was an excellent comedy show that both started out brilliantly and got better with each and every episode.
