Can you believe it? It’s been 2 years since I last updated this list?! Surely, a lot has changed in these 2 years, so it’s about time to add some new pairings to the list and update my thoughts on the ones that have been in there for years already~
Finé is already one of my favorite anime characters of 2016, while Izetta probably made it to my top 3 cutest anime characters of all-time. So even without pairing them up with each other, I’m absolutely in love with both of them. However, if you now ship them with each other, what emerges from this simple equation of Finé + Izetta, is simply heavenly.
Those two compliment each other wonderfully, with strong and badass Finé handling her beloved and oh so loyal Izetta with the utmost care.
Their scenes together are some of the most enjoyable moments in anime history, and it makes me wonder just why in the world there hasn’t been more fan art and doujinshi about them. It’s something that I really can’t understand, as to me, they seem like the perfect match~
2016 had a lot to offer. Maybe not too many yuri anime, but definitely a lot of other yuri media, such as a ton of yuri visual novels and some really awesome new yuri manga.
So in old YuriReviews fashion, we would like to hand out some awards for who and what we think deserves these awards most this year:
Lena’s Best Yuri Anime: Shuumatsu no Izetta
Well, other than the Valkyrie Drive Specials we can’t really say 2016 offered any other pure yuri show, so I guess we have to work with what we got and make the best of it, right? So, since I didn’t want to go with “only” some specials from a show that aired last year, I decided to go with the show that came closest to what I think is really yuri, which is Izetta: The Last Witch. Despite the fact that she show doesn’t label itself as yuri, nor do the two main characters ever really declare their love, I still feel like it’s pretty obvious that they actually do love each other—romantically, that is. And if they are not yet in a relationship with each other, then I’m freaking sure they will be at some point, since their chemistry was simply over the top amazing, just like the show itself~
Just like our Yuri Anime 2013, Yuri Anime 2014, Yuri Anime 2015, and Yuri Anime 2016 lists, this one will also feature all the yuri shows that will air in 2017. Since it’s not even 2017 yet, this list is still in progress and will be updated whenever there are new shows to add. If you feel like we missed something, feel free to name your additions.
Spoiler Warning – If you’re only interested in my ratings, scroll all the way down~
Basically, this new season of Love Live! is pretty much a clone of the very first Love Live! season, only with slightly better animation and characters with different names:
Oops. Sorry, Chika!
Genki girl Hono-, I mean Chika, one day decides that she wants to be a school idol and thus starts looking for more members. Of course, the student council is—for mysterious reasons—not too happy about that, but they make it through anyway, gain more members on their way, and even get their initial opponents to join the team. Sounds familiar?
Anyway, the characters seem pretty similar to the μ’s girls as well, but I think I should let pictures speak instead.
It’s that time of the year again, so enjoy our First Impressions of the summer anime season that just started~
Length: ? • Genre: Comedy, School, Slice of Life • Studio: J.C.Staff
After having read the description of this show, I bet a lot of us had our hopes up for at least a little yuri subtext. Having watched the first episode now, I think that’s actually not all we might be able to hope for. The whole set-up of how the two girls meet reminds me so, so much of the typical girl x girl encounter you can find in numerous other yuri shows and especially in manga. Long hair swaying in the wind, the two meeting by the ocean, ending up in the same class, and sitting right next to each other…. Yeah, that really sounds like the start of a great “friendship”, one where I can totally see Futaba developing feelings for airhead Hikari in no time.
Though, how far will this show go showing us their relationship? It’s not described as a yuri show, though neither was Madoka, and see how far things went in that one. So, yeah. I have my hopes up, and I sure hope they won’t disappoint us!
Since I more or less dropped almost all shows that I had planned on watching—or started watching—this season (feel free to openly judge me for that), I had high hopes for the upcoming summer season, and I’m actually pretty sure this one won’t disappoint.
So disregarding the fact that we will also do our seasonal “First Impressions” post once the new season has started, this one will cover the yuri-ish shows that we might want to get hyped about, even before getting a first taste of the shows listed.
I’ll only name full yuri shows or those that might have some yuri content involved, and for those, I will add a category called “Potential Yuri”, which I will then grade as either High, Medium, or Yuri Goggles Material. Please note that this will only cover my personal expectations, so it might as well turn out very differently once the season has finally started.
