Anime Summer Season 2017: First Impressions

2017 summer anime first impressions

It’s that time of the year again, so enjoy our First Impressions of the summer anime season that just started~

Netsuzou TRap
Studio: Creators in Pack • Genre: Drama, Yuri

As you probably know from my First Impression post dedicated only to this show, I was a bit disappointed. Now, after seeing 2 more episodes of Netsuzou TRap, my opinion hasn’t changed, and I in fact settled with the thought that this one will simply not be as great as I was hoping it would be.

Let’s just say that other than the fast pace and the low-budgety animation, I guess I’m missing the feeling the manga gave off. Even if the anime shows exactly what is presented in each and every chapter, the feeling and atmosphere present in the manga is for some reason completely absent in the anime version, even though this kind of media should be perfect to amplify these things even more. Ah well, no use complaining about it. It’s still definitely worth watching, and who knows, maybe it’ll get better from here on.

Yuri News Update – April 2017

It’s time for another News Update. This time we’re focusing on anime news instead of the typical visual novel news that has recently invaded all of our news posts.

yamada and kase-sanLet’s start right away with some more or less sad news concerning the anime adaptation of Kase-san. As it turns out, what was advertised with the mysterious poster that the whole community talked about a week ago wasn’t in fact a full anime adaptation, but instead “only” a short Youtube video. Still, I don’t think we should lose hope just yet. If this video—or more like the manga—proves to be or get popular enough, who knows, maybe we’ll still get an anime sooner or later.

If you haven’t already seen the preview, you can watch it right here:

Yuri Anime / Manga / Visual Novel Awards 2016

2016 yuri anime manga visual novel awards

2016 had a lot to offer. Maybe not too many yuri anime, but definitely a lot of other yuri media, such as a ton of yuri visual novels and some really awesome new yuri manga.

So in old YuriReviews fashion, we would like to hand out some awards for who and what we think deserves these awards most this year:

Lena’s Best Yuri Anime: Shuumatsu no Izetta
shuumatsu no izetta

Well, other than the Valkyrie Drive Specials we can’t really say 2016 offered any other pure yuri show, so I guess we have to work with what we got and make the best of it, right? So, since I didn’t want to go with “only” some specials from a show that aired last year, I decided to go with the show that came closest to what I think is really yuri, which is Izetta: The Last Witch. Despite the fact that she show doesn’t label itself as yuri, nor do the two main characters ever really declare their love, I still feel like it’s pretty obvious that they actually do love each other—romantically, that is. And if they are not yet in a relationship with each other, then I’m freaking sure they will be at some point, since their chemistry was simply over the top amazing, just like the show itself~

Short Anime Review: New Game!

New-Game-illustration-manga-009.pngYear: 2016
Episodes: 12
Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy, Ecchi, Yuri Subtext

After graduating from high school, Suzukase Aoba realizes one of her biggest dreams, that being joining Eaglejump, the famous game company that once released her all-time favorite game, Fairies Story.

This anime takes us on a short ride from the moment Aoba joins the company to the actual release of the new installment of her favorite game series.

First of all, why did I start watching this show? Was it because of the awesome manga that had gained some popularity over the year prior to its anime adaptation? Was it because of the theme of the anime, that being joining a game company? Or maybe it was because of the hinted yuri elements that we already knew would hit us in the anime as well?

Anime Summer Season 2016: First Impressions

2016 summer anime

It’s that time of the year again, so enjoy our First Impressions of the summer anime season that just started~

Amanchu!
Length: ? • Genre: Comedy, School, Slice of Life • Studio: J.C.Staff
amanchu anime

After having read the description of this show, I bet a lot of us had our hopes up for at least a little yuri subtext. Having watched the first episode now, I think that’s actually not all we might be able to hope for. The whole set-up of how the two girls meet reminds me so, so much of the typical girl x girl encounter you can find in numerous other yuri shows and especially in manga. Long hair swaying in the wind, the two meeting by the ocean, ending up in the same class, and sitting right next to each other…. Yeah, that really sounds like the start of a great “friendship”, one where I can totally see Futaba developing feelings for airhead Hikari in no time.

Though, how far will this show go showing us their relationship? It’s not described as a yuri show, though neither was Madoka, and see how far things went in that one. So, yeah. I have my hopes up, and I sure hope they won’t disappoint us!

Let’s Talk About The Summer Anime Season – Get on the Hype Train

2016 summer yuri anime

Since I more or less dropped almost all shows that I had planned on watching—or started watching—this season (feel free to openly judge me for that), I had high hopes for the upcoming summer season, and I’m actually pretty sure this one won’t disappoint.

So disregarding the fact that we will also do our seasonal “First Impressions” post once the new season has started, this one will cover the yuri-ish shows that we might want to get hyped about, even before getting a first taste of the shows listed.

I’ll only name full yuri shows or those that might have some yuri content involved, and for those, I will add a category called “Potential Yuri”, which I will then grade as either High, Medium, or Yuri Goggles Material. Please note that this will only cover my personal expectations, so it might as well turn out very differently once the season has finally started.
