Synopsis: The “Otherworld” is a vast and dangerous realm hidden from the knowledge of the common folk. It is also home to many creatures that threaten any human who dare visit it. To witness its desolate yet oddly absorbing environment, one must search for portals that could reside anywhere, from secret elevators to shrine entrances.
After a fateful encounter with a horrendous Otherworld denizen, Sorao Kamikoshi ponders whether to keep going or give up in life. Meanwhile, Toriko Nishina scours the Otherworld in hopes of finding her friend Satsuki, who she believes is lost somewhere within the realm.
When the two cross paths, friendship blossoms. In order to acquire as much information about this obscure dimension, the two travel back and forth from the real world to the other. Sorao and Toriko’s bodies are soon influenced by the Otherworld, preparing them for the many horrors to come as both of them try to fulfill their goals.
It’s that time of the year again, so enjoy our Final Thoughts of the winter anime season that just came to an end~
Hands down, Jujutsu Kaisen is my favorite show of the season, even beating Shingeki no Kyojin and Otherside Picnic. Unlike many other fans out there, I had not read the manga and simply went into it because of the hype surrounding it. I wasn’t expecting much, just some action packed shounen anime with a story like whatever else you can find flying around right now. And while the story itself didn’t strike me as anything that unusual or outstanding, everything else did. Continue reading →
This list is still a work in progress and will be updated whenever there are new shows to add. Unlike past years, we won’t assume that certain non-pure yuri anime will have some kind of yuri, even if the series has had some yuri in the past. An example would be the newest season of WIXOSS. It might have some yuri, but it’s not a sure thing, so unless/until it does, it won’t be added to the list. Don’t fret, other upcoming anime that are more likely to include yuri will be included, such as the Revue Starlight movie.
Anyway, if you feel like we missed something, feel free to name your additions down in the comments~
Since I’ve read the light novels and recently also started reading the manga, I can say that I’m very, very happy with the look, sound, and feel of this adaptation. I think they cast the perfect voice actresses for our two main characters, and it even seems as if the admittedly little yuri depicted in the anime, so far (at least in my eyes) comes off far stronger than what I encountered in the novels.
I think the only two things that bothered me a little are the weird changes in animation that happen every now and then and the fact that, so far, I feel like we’re rushing through things. The first few visits to the other side felt like it took the two an eternity, yet in the anime, it’s all over in a few minutes. I guess I would have liked a longer first episode really. With that said, I understand however why they needed to feature all these events in the first episode, I would have just liked it all to be depicted in let’s say 40 and not 20 minutes.
With this post, I would like to put aside all of the bad that has happened in 2020 and instead focus on what people that come here actually want to read about, yuri stuff. So why not forget about this horrible year for a second and focus our mind on the few good things that happened within the past 12 months?
I’ll try to do this in the most chronologically correct order my brain can come up with, but I think I’m not the only one that kind of sees 2020 as this big pile of inconceivable time. I’ll give it my best though!
So as I freshly emerged from 2019, still playing my beloved Fire Emblem: Three Houses and starting the new year while still shipping Edelgard with both myself and Byleth, things couldn’t have been better, to be honest. There were quite a few things to be excited for, new visual novels that got announced, new yuri(ish) anime, and to top it all off, tons and tons of new yuri manga from all over the world.
First up, it looks like Wataten will be getting a new anime project, at some point in the near future. The first season was a pleasant surprise, so I’m glad that we’ll eventually be seeing more of these characters. As of yet, it’s not known what “new anime project” really means, but we did get a cute new pic to go along with the announcement.
Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I’m thinking maybe the chibi look could mean that this is only going to be a short-form anime similar to Mini Yuri. That’s okay, I guess, but I’d much rather prefer a proper second season. Either way, the first season was cute and not very offensive—despite the lolicon protagonist—so I’d welcome any new content we can get.
The yuri drought is coming to an end, and judging by the stories in this month’s Yuri News Update, the near future actually looks pretty good for yuri-ish anime fans. As always, if we missed any important news stories, let us know in the comments.
It’s almost here! The anime adaptation of Adachi to Shimamura begins airing this week, and we recently got these two PVs that are focused on each of our two protagonists. Take a look~
It’s going to be awesome to finally have another pure yuri anime to watch, and it’s even better that this one looks really promising. It’s probably unrealistic to expect this to be on the level of something like Bloom Into You, but it has to be better than Flag Time, right?
