It’s that time of the year again, so enjoy our Final Thoughts of the winter anime season that just came to an end~

JUJUTSU KAISEN

jujutsu kaisen anime

Hands down, Jujutsu Kaisen is my favorite show of the season, even beating Shingeki no Kyojin and Otherside Picnic. Unlike many other fans out there, I had not read the manga and simply went into it because of the hype surrounding it. I wasn’t expecting much, just some action packed shounen anime with a story like whatever else you can find flying around right now. And while the story itself didn’t strike me as anything that unusual or outstanding, everything else did.

So what do we have here? Yuri title of the season? Check. Super cute characters? Check. Disturbing story? Check.

Wait, what?! So the ones who already read the manga knew what was coming. For others, it might have been a huge shock. I usually love shows with some shock value. Ones that lead you into believing they are something different and then just hit you with what they truly are, like Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica, or in one way or another, Asobi Asobase, too. Now add in some yuri and it should be the perfect combination, right? But somehow, it’s not quite.

As much as I love this type of show as well as age gap, and, of course, yuri, I guess the age difference here might be a bit too big or rather, one of them is simply too young for me to actually get into this and find it okay. On the other hand, from only having watched the first episode and having read about three chapters of the manga, the love shared here might be a little more on the sisterly side, but do correct me if I’m wrong.

All in all, I am surprised of how well the adaptation turned out so far. I might not be the biggest fan of the story, and I might as well not really be there for the yuri in this one, but I’ll definitely stick around to see where the story goes from here.

Oh, what a guilty pleasure this was… I was constantly torn between seriously not liking it for it’s over the top ecchiness and the ridiculous and kind of out of place singing scenes that happened almost each and every episode, and simply enjoying it for the fun it provided and also the yuri that more or less also stayed a constant element of the show for its whole run. I guess I can’t say I’m fully satisfied with its yuri content, even though we did get quite a lot, though that shall be part of my full review that we’ll post after the current tournament has ended. For now, let’s just say I expected some more in the yuri department, even though we definitely did get quite a lot~

Okay guys, I know this show is bad. Very bad, to be honest. We won’t get much plot, what we get might not make any sense, and the whole show will simply focus on girls with big boobs in skimpy clothing fighting girls in even less clothing with even bigger boobs.

Let’s just move past the fact that it’s just not gonna be the best show of the season and focus on something else, because what this show will feature is yuri content, a lot of it actually, if what the first episode had to offer will be continued—and I sure believe it will.

So far, it really all reminds me a little of Valkyrie Drive, just without the yuri romance, and funny thing is, I’m actually enjoying it. Not such a big surprise to some of you, I’m sure, but I personally didn’t expect that. So I guess this means this show is going to be my personal guilty pleasure of the season~
