My Top 10 Yuri Manga That Should Be Made Into Anime

I’ve already made a similar post to this, talking about what kind of yuri manga I’d want to see animated and which manga combinations I think would make the perfect yuri anime. But since this post is already pretty old, I decided to update it, which is why I’ll now present to you my Top 10 Yuri Manga that should be made into Anime.

As always, this is only my opinion, so feel free to tell me what you think is missing in this list~

And before people point it out, not all of my picks are Manga, there are some games added as well.

10. A better Touhou anime

As great as the few Touhou anime projects are, they are still not what I really want to see.

You have the choice between fanmade projects that are either not voiced or that come with art and animation that is simply not as satisfying as we’d want it to be. Furthermore, the few episodes we’ve already gotten don’t really come with a plot that can be used for a whole anime, and that’s something I really don’t understand, given the numerous characters and their individual background stories. Honestly, I think the possibilities for a Touhou anime are simply endless.

Especially since we’ve now also gotten a Kantai Collection anime, I demand to see something similar for this game as well!

My Top 10 Favorite Yuri Characters

After I already made a Top 10 list of my favorite yuri pairings, it’s now time to list my favorite yuri characters as well. This time, I will only list characters that we can be sure are into girls, or at least one specific girl. So stuff like Touhou characters will not be mentioned. With that said, as always, enjoy~

10. Akane Ryuuzouji (Walkure Romance)
akane walkure romanze

Best yuri girl of 2013? Yup, that’s right. In my eyes, Akane definitely deserves this title. Well, we should probably not talk about how things will eventually turn out for her in the original game that Walkure Romance is based on. So let’s keep this book closed and just see her as the great lesbian she appears to be in the anime.

My Top 10 Yuri Manga [Updated]

It’s almost been a year since I made my first Top 10 list of this kind. If you wanna read it, click here. During that time, some manga came to an end, others started out, and still others surprised me by turning out really well. In short, a lot of things changed, and instead of just changing my previous list, I think it’s more convenient to just make a new one.

Many of the already listed manga will appear in this list again, but a whole bunch of new titles will finally appear too. 2013 has fortunately been a year full of great yuri manga, and while I think this will continue in 2014, we can probably already say that 2014 is also the year of great yuri anime, but that’s another story.

For now, let’s start the list.

10.
flower and the star yuri manga
Title: The Flower and the Star
Author: Suzukin Kario
Genre: Comedy, Drama, School Setting, Yuri
Description: Hanai is a junior higher and the best at table tennis. She’s never lost, and she’s won many tournaments, but after some freshman she’s never heard of beats her like it was nothing, she starts losing every game after that and she can’t get rid of that feeling of defeat. Now it’s her first day of high school and she’s decided to quit table tennis and live an ordinary high school life, but on the first day, she runs into the very girl that first defeated her. It turns out that she’s also quit table tennis, but this girl always has a cold expression on her face and Hanai can’t help but feel that this girl is always looking down on her and trying to mess up her perfect high school life. One day the girl falls asleep in class, and Hanai reaches over to wake her up. As she does so, the girl, still half asleep, looks up at her with a smile and almost kisses her. The girl later tells Hanai that she was having a dream about her, but Hanai coldly brushes it off thinking she’s just messing with her and walks away – as the girl behind her looks down while blushing….Source

Chapters: 11 Chapters + Special
Year: 2010
Scanlation Group: Yuri Project

I never thought a manga about table tennis could be this good, but then again, table tennis is not the main them of the story, the relationship between Hanai und Haru is. To be honest, I’d rather see Haru with her childhood friend Chika, and that’s probably the main reason why this one didn’t score higher.

Manga Review: Shitsurakuen

Scanlation Group: Mako-scans

Genre: Action, Fantasy, Harem, Comedy, School Setting, Duels, Psychological, Yuri
Story: 7/10 (not considering chapter 23 and 24)
Himoto Sora, a strong-willed and protective girl, enters a special elite school called “Utopia Gakuen”, in which all students take part in a virtual reality-like game that was invented by the founders of the school themselves. In this game the boys use the girls as weapons to fight each other in order to gain more strength, a higher status and to ultimately own more weapons. And since the winner of each battle will gain possession of the loser’s weapon, the girls are treated like objects rather than real humans. Upon seeing all the girls suffering from being abused and dominated by the boys, Sora decides to help and protect the ones who are treated like mere objects and become the knight of justice who will change the wrongful rules of this game. Fortunately, thanks to a bug in the game, she, just like all the other boys, receives the device that lets her participate in the game as a fighter and not as a weapon.

Some Anime Suggestions

Well, as a yuri fan, it’s pretty obvious what types of anime I want to see more in the future, but let’s be a little more specific.

A short while ago, I came across this image. Before clicking on the picture, let me inform you that this is fake, so don’t get your hopes up when reading all the yuri titles.

2013 spring yuri anime list
I wish this was true~

When first seeing this and reading the first entry, I basically did a little dance of joy in my head. But the more I read, the more skeptical I got. A Sono Hanabira anime is one thing, but then another handful of pure yuri anime is not only more than my fragile yuri heart can take, but also more than enough to make me question the authenticity of this list.
