Yuri News Update: May 2021

yuri news update may 2021

madoka magica turning the tide of walpurgis

No disrespect to the other things on this month’s News Update, but it might as well only be about Madoka★Magica~

Yes, the sequel to Rebellion has FINALLY been confirmed, and even though we don’t know when the new movie will see the light of day, just knowing that it’s officially on its way might be the most exciting yuri news in years. At least it is to me. 😛

The title of the movie is Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Movie 4: Turning the Tide of Walpurgis, and if you weren’t already hyped enough, here’s the first PV to help change that~

Yuri Anime 2021

yuri anime 2021

Just like our Yuri Anime 2013, Yuri Anime 2014, Yuri Anime 2015, Yuri Anime 2016, Yuri Anime 2017, Yuri Anime 2018, Yuri Anime 2019, and Yuri Anime 2020 lists, this one will also feature all the yuri shows that will air in 2021.

This list is still a work in progress and will be updated whenever there are new shows to add. Unlike past years, we won’t assume that certain non-pure yuri anime will have some kind of yuri, even if the series has had some yuri in the past. An example would be the newest season of WIXOSS. It might have some yuri, but it’s not a sure thing, so unless/until it does, it won’t be added to the list. Don’t fret, other upcoming anime that are more likely to include yuri will be included, such as the Revue Starlight movie.

Anyway, if you feel like we missed something, feel free to name your additions down in the comments~

Yuri News Update: January 2021

yuri news update january 2021

It’s an all-new year but the same ol’ Yuri News Update that you know and don’t seem to hate too much. 😀

This month’s update seems to be rather small compared to other months, but as always, if we missed any important news (we probably did), feel free to mention it down in the comments. Happy New Year~

bloom into you anthology manga

Since last month’s update, Seven Seas announced that they had licensed the Bloom Into You Anthology manga series, with volume one set to release in September of this year. Seeing all these other creators add their own spin to the series is awesome, and I don’t think it’s something that happens often enough.

Yuu has always loved shoujo manga and awaits the day she gets a love confession that sends her heart aflutter with bubbles and hearts, and yet when a junior high classmate confesses his feelings to her…she feels nothing. Disappointed and confused, Yuu enters high school still unsure how to respond. That’s when Yuu sees the beautiful student council president Nanami turn down a suitor with such maturity that she’s inspired to ask her for help. But when the next person to confess to Yuu is Nanami herself, has her shoujo romance finally begun? Explore this tale like never before in this collection of all-new short manga by various creators!

Seven Seas hasn’t announced when we can expect the second volume of the anthology, but it’s safe to say that it’s a ways off, possibly not even until 2022. Either way, it’s great news that fans of the series have something else to look forward to~

Yuri News Update: September 2020

yuri news update september 2020

As we do at the beginning of every month, it’s time to recap what’s been going on in the world of yuri. If we missed something important, feel free to let us know in the comments, but without further ado, let’s get started.

adachi to shimamura yuri anime

First up, we’re just over a month away from the premiere of the anime adaptation of Adachi to Shimamura, and to tide us over until then, a new PV and key visual have been released. The E.T. vibes of the visual are nice, and the PV? It further cements this as a “can’t-miss” anime for yuri fans.

The sweet tone of the PV is something I’ve been missing from all these other anime, and with the yuri drought we’ve been experiencing almost at its end, Adachi to Shimamura should be the most anticipated yuri anime since Bloom Into You. But that’s not all the AdaShima news there is to pass along…

Yuri News Update: August 2020

yuri news update

It’s that time of the month again, time to go over what’s been happening in the world of yuri anime, manga, and visual novels. So sit back, relax, and enjoy August’s Yuri News Update~

And as usual, if we missed anything important, let us know in the comments.

donuts under a crescent moon yuri manga

There are a lot of manga licenses to get to, so let’s start off with one. Thanks to the kind folks at Seven Seas, Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon will be brought to audiences in North America, with the first volume being released in February 2021. In case you’re not familiar with it, here’s the description.

Uno Hinako throws herself into makeup, fashion, and falling in love, hoping that will make her seem “normal” to the other people at her job. But no matter how hard she tries, she’s a self-doubting mess inside, and her attempts at “normal” romance with men just keep failing. When she starts to think she might be alone forever, a new normal presents itself–in the form of her relationship with Sato Asahi, a level-headed woman who works at her company, which starts as respect until it becomes far more intimate.

While yuri anime fans have to make do with the typical assortment of idols, magical girls, and school girls, yuri manga fans get interesting stories like this, and I’d be lying if I said I’m not jealous. Not every story has to star fifteen-year-olds, so manga fans have it pretty dman good, especially with all these licenses that keep coming down the pike.

Yuri News Update: June 2020

It’s the first Wednesday in June, which means it’s time for yet another Yuri News Update. If I missed a news story worth mentioning, feel free to mention it down below in the comments. 😛

adachi to shimamura animee

Let’s get things started with some good news. The hopes and dreams of yuri anime in 2020 have rested on the shoulders of Adachi to Shimamura for some time, so it’s especially rewarding to learn that it’s finally set to premiere in October. It’s also rewarding to see another PV, as shown below.

For reasons we’ll talk about more later on, it was worrying that this show didn’t have a set date yet, but it turns out it’s only four short months away. Even though I personally haven’t read the light novels or manga, the PV makes this look very promising, and I’m so looking forward to getting to watch an actual yuri anime again~
