What We’re Listening to This Week (December 2, 2019 Edition)

In case you didn’t know, today is Britney Spears’ birthday, so since I’ve been a fan of hers since I was a little kid, I thought I could use this week’s post as a little Britney celebration. Fun fact: I was once banned from the largest Britney forum on the internet because of my criticisms towards her manager. But I was also one of the three people who helped rebuild the largest Britney gallery site on the internet, so I think it evens itself out. 😛

Not only is this my favorite Britney song ever, it’s also one of my favorite songs ever. It’s a shame this song never got a proper music video (her personal problems at the time prevented that), but we got this anime-inspired music video instead, and it’s pretty awesome, so at least there’s that. Now give me my Britney anime!

This is a remix, but I was just as shocked as anyone when I found out she recorded a song in French. Who knew?! Anyway, the video here was an interlude video used on her “The Circus starring Britney Spears” tour in 2009, and it was set to Marilyn Manson’s cover of the Eurythmics song Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This). Really.

How can you not love a video with Britney wearing a bikini top and little cut-off shorts? It’s probably what Heaven looks like (or at least my interpretation of it :D), and that scene of her in the tree? It’s glorious. The locale can’t match that of other music videos, but Britney herself makes up for it, and it’s still an ungodly amount of eye candy.

This one is such a weird song, yet it’s a ton of fun, and it stands out a lot. Femme Fatale was another killer album from her, so I can forgive her for how forgettable Britney Jean and especially Glory were. This probably would have been a fun video, though this didn’t become a single, so she should just start filming music videos for all of her songs. Problem solved.

When you think of unlikely collaborations, Britney Spears and The Ying Yang Twins has to be somewhere on the list. It’s strange, yet I think it works surprisingly well, and once upon a time, Britney was actually pretty cool, so maybe it shouldn’t be so surprising that she was able to pull this off.

Britney doesn’t really write most of her music, but whoever wrote this song deserves a raise, because the wordplay involved in the cheeky title was pretty clever. And then there’s the picture-perfect facade of a domestic housewife that gets shattered with all the sexy dancing, so looks can be deceiving, and your neighbors are probably secretly into bondage. You heard it here first.

With a music catalog spanning twenty-years, Britney has songs about a lot of subjects. Threesomes, anal sex, indecent exposure, and in this song’s case, break-up sex. She has everything covered! Anyway, this is a nice beat, and back in the day, it was cool seeing people excited when they heard it for the first time during this showcase.

Although she certainly wouldn’t call herself a fan, Lena has her own favorite Britney song, and it’s this one. Because of this, I’ve almost never been more proud of her. I’m sure she doesn’t want anyone to know this, but she does pretty much this exact same thing. 😀

She’s definitely not known for her ballads, but Britney has some solid ones in her discography. Don’t Let Me Be the Last to Know up there is one, but this one is also one of my favorites, and I’ve been wanting her to release more ballads over the years. It’ll probably never happen, but at least we have a few good ones to play over and over.

This was my favorite song on Femme Fatale. There were quite a few bops, and this was yet another one of those carefree songs that just ends up being pretty fun. Say what you will about how most of her songs lack depth, but who needs depth in mainstream pop music??? 😀

This video leaked a while back, and thank God it did! The official music video was good and all, arguably her best, but c’mon. Who wouldn’t to see this instead? But whoever put those lyrics over the video should be shot. They were totally unnecessary. Also, her little flub towards the end was super cute~

Back when Circus was released and I heard this song for the first time, I was desperately wanting this song to become a single… but it never happened. There were a lot of good songs on that album, but this was easily my favorite one, and it’s probably one of my favorite Britney songs on any album.
